Letter to the Stones re. vote song for Zurich show
Posted by: MGetzner ()

Dear Mr. Jagger, dear Mr. Richards, dear Mr. Watts, dear Mr. Wood,

you thankfully gave us fans a choice for songs to vote for at the upcoming concert in Zurich. However, it is almost impossible to choose from these four wonderful songs (All Down The Line, Sweet Virginia, Let It Blee, Like A Rolling Stone) - true gems in your catalogue!

I was wondering if you would be willing to consider playing not only one of these songs at the concert but to extend the “vote song” to actually two or three songs. That would be a joint birthday and Christmas present for many fans!

Maybe this letter reaches you somehow – thanks for considering my wish.

Thank you so much for still bringing on the hottest rock’n roll show on the planet!

Cheers

Michael Getzner, Vienna, Austria

Just received a cc on their reply..

From :The Rolling Stones
To: Michael Getzner

Dear Mr Getzner,

Thank you for your inquiry.
In a word- No.

The primary reason is we wouldn't dare do all those songs in a public set as most are songs we don't play that often and as such, we are likely to make one or two mistakes. While, we understand to some one or two mistakes would be fine, we have to take into consideration our hard-core fans who have started at least three or four threads over that same amount on songs we do regularly.
Knowing they demand perfection, we must respectfully decline.

Signed,
The greatest live band that ever lived.

I would rather vote for the one I don't want to hear.

These choices could be better as usual.

They performed "All Down the Line" in Switzerland on the 'A Bigger Bang Tour'.

They performed "Like a Rolling Stone" in Switzerland twice already on 2 different tours. 3rd time for a cover song?? I would say not a good idea.

They played "Sweet Virginia" and "Let it Bleed" there already also but, that goes back to 1995 so,I would choose one of those 2 since these are the only four choices.

Well, you could get lucky like I did in Pittsburgh in 2015. I voted for All Down the Line because it had been playing in my head all morning, but Paint It Black won. They played All Down the Line anyway. Sometimes you get what you need.

Now if the song vote was actually something legitimate, say:

Let It Loose

Loving Cup

Stupid Girl

Cherry Oh Baby

Even if they want to rely on the same regular songs that they usually play, they could have a list of songs not performed in Switzerland (or not performed in Switzerland in the 1990 and onwards era) to choose from.

For example :

Rocks Off

Shattered

Emotional Rescue

Live With Me

Moonlight Mile

When the Whip Comes Down

Are we supposed to believe that, between shows, they spend their time rehearsing four songs wondering which one will get the most votes?

Let's not forget the actor who "won" the trip to see Exhibitionism and was "surprised" by the band. Ha ha.

I humbly suggest that they've decided on what they're going to do well in advance of the chance to vote.

I really hope, "Dancin . ." is still on their radar.
A little more work on the groove and it could be one of the tours' highlight.
Don't give up early like with Silver train.

Unfortunately there are rarely real surprises among the vote songs.
And there's a lot of good stuff waiting . .

I was at the 2015 Pittsburgh show and it was magnificent , it rained all day and just a little before 9:00pm (showtime) the rain stopped .I was bundled up in a sweater and jeans and one of those rain slicker things with the hood and I sweated my nads off .It was a grand show and I had such a grand time down front in front of the RIFFMASTER smiling smiley

This tour,it is all done through the Rolling Stones "App" for iPhones or Android via Google Play.

You can run Android x86 on a computer but,the Rolling Stones App itself 1) requires wireless internet access to activate the app & 2) the Rolling Stones App itself is very difficult to use without a touch screen. It can be done though provided you are using a supported form of wireless internet access.
