Seems that Stadium of Light , SOL, Sunderland, was also an option

"@SunderlandAFC miss the chance to play host to the Rolling Stones. Can’t agree dates because of work on the SoL pitch this summer."
Sunderland AFC has confirmed that the club was approached regarding the “possibility” of hosting a Rolling Stones concert at the Stadium of Light - but that the date proposed was unsuitable. The Echo understands that the football club was approached by a third-party promoter for “preliminary discussions” around a gig in the summer- but there was no definite offer on the table. A Sunderland AFC spokesperson said: “SAFC was approached about the possibility of holding the concert however, the date proposed would not have allowed enough time to complete pitch renovations ahead of the 2018-19 season. “Both parties explored earlier dates but were unfortunately unable to find a solution.”

Still no rumours for UK apart from Twickenham, which is a bit concerning.

I don't think they will play in Wales if there's more than two London gigs. The distance between inner London and Cardiff is just 210 km. The distance between the German shows was bigger. Maybe they play not even in North England. The days are over where there was a show every 80-200 km.

Arnhem - Amsterdam was only 97 km

and Germany (especially the densely populated Ruhr area) is very close, too

I think it is nonsense to compare Wales (3 million inhabitants) and the London metropolitan area with Netherlands (17 million inhabitants) and parts of Germany (Northrhine-Westphalia) where much more people more live.

Why would Sunderland need a new pitch, they haven’t been able to play football for years.

Responding to a BBC North East tweet on Sunderland not wanting the aging foursome - which has since been removed - the former England man simply said: "That's a shame. They might have actually seen a good performance for once."

They are two different venues.

One for cricket and one for football.

More likely to be the cricket ground.

They're also skint with £160m of debts, in severe danger of being relegated to League 1 and have a disinterested owner desperate to sell them. I would have thought they'd welcome the money.

Billy Joel is playing the football ground this year so why not the Stones?
The cricket ground is useful for a lower level of act - Rihanna, Liam Gallagher, Radiohead etc... the Stones will want to have 50,000+ which could be done at Old Trafford and the Etihad stadium. I'm a United season ticket holder so hope it's Old Trafford. 22 million people live within 2 hours' car/train travel from Manchester so don't worry about this selling... My gut feeling is they will go with the Etihad.

Yes, there is. I think they have the odd gig there. Don't think Man Utd have ever had a gig at the Sty - sorry, I mean their Old Trafford.

Oh boy. I got an ‘ok’ from my USA living, ManUnited hardcore fan English husband to slip into England by myself for a single show. But if there's shows at Etihad.... might throw a wrench in it.
ETA: ah! see it’s not the MU teams place, but the others. I can’t follow your English football to save my life. That’s it. I’ll just stay mum and proceed.

I really doubt they're going to play Twickenham as this would involve consulting with the local council about road closures etc.

Here is a Twickenham Stadium event timetable from the local Richmond Council. It makes no mention of any events on June 19 or 24.

Silver Dagger, note that the page was updated last on January 19. The tweets by twickerman first appeared only on January 31.

The application for the additional concert was filed on December 20, 2017. The neighbor notification started on January 12, 2018.

The matter is still being processed with a decision due on March 21, 2018.

The page you linked doesn't even mention the Eminem concerts in July which were announced on January 29.

I agree. They have played there before and is a better venue. (England V Australia at Old Trafford on 24th June so don't imagine they would want 000's trampling all over the pitch 2-3 weeks before this)

Got the t shirt for that at home because my parents went. thumbs up

I don't think they'll do Old Trafford football ground unless there's designated seating on the pitch. Stone Roses wanted to play there instead of the council house (home of oil money FC) but they couldn't due not enough exits for people who would be in general admission on the pitch.

Billy Joel is playing there but I think he has reserved pitch seating.

The first time I saw the Stones (1998) Man City were in the 2nd division!

I don't think so. They said there would be an extended UK Tour. Surely Cardiff will get a show. Imho, the Principality Stadium is Britain's very best sports stadium and I'm not Welsh so not biased, certainly not after what happened to my own nation there last Saturday sad smiley

The weather doesn't become a factor then either. So far, Ed Sheeran is doing 4 nights there in June but no other gigs mentioned - there was a 'leaked' Foo Fighters poster advertising a show but nothing came of that.

My mistake. I could have sworn I saw them there just after Man City took it over in 2002. Just looked at my old tickets and I did see them in Manchester but 1990 at Maine Road. Jeez the years really do fly by !

Saw stone roses there in 2016 and seeing the foo fighters there this summer

Very good venue with terrific sound and easy to access with the metro in Manchester
