manchester early june could suite me
knw the city decent enough and the tram goes straigh to the airport and drops off very near Old Trafford
its the soccer stadium not the cricket place right ???
More likely to be the cricket ground.
Billy Joel is playing the football ground this year so why not the Stones?
The cricket ground is useful for a lower level of act - Rihanna, Liam Gallagher, Radiohead etc... the Stones will want to have 50,000+ which could be done at Old Trafford and the Etihad stadium. I'm a United season ticket holder so hope it's Old Trafford. 22 million people live within 2 hours' car/train travel from Manchester so don't worry about this selling... My gut feeling is they will go with the Etihad.

When did they play the Etihad?
They never have done.

They've played Maine Road - City's former ground - in 1990.
Got the t shirt for that at home because my parents went.
I don't think they'll do Old Trafford football ground unless there's designated seating on the pitch. Stone Roses wanted to play there instead of the council house (home of oil money FC) but they couldn't due not enough exits for people who would be in general admission on the pitch.
Billy Joel is playing there but I think he has reserved pitch seating.

Springsteen has played Old Trafford (the football stadium) with GA on the pitch.
The Stones in recent tours like to have seats on the pitch (or floor for indoor arenas) for UK shows even if they werent legally required. They can charge higher prices for them.

Yes I wasn’t aware that the stones had played there before and I can’t recall hearing about any recent concerts there.I guess another option is to hold two concerts in Scotland if they were planning to play only one.

The last time The Rolling Stones played many shows i.e. sort of a tour in UK was in 1990 when they played five shows at Wembley Stadium (of which two shows were delayed until August), two shows at Manchester City Football Ground (Maine Road), and one show each at Cardiff Arms Park, Hampden Park Glasgow, and St James' Park Newcastle.
I do believe they have been looking at a similar solution for the UK tour this summer, shows spread out in UK and of course Ireland. To everyone who think they should play a zillion shows in The Netherlands or Germany or wherever due to population and number of fans: Don't forget they are going home now. They are a British band from London. I hope they manage to book and perform many shows in UK and Ireland. We will know more later on during the spring.

I don't think Cardiff, let alone Sunderland is "home" for The Rolling Stones. They will only play such gigs if the negotiations with big markets partly fail. They prefer cities where they don't have an 2 hours drive to the hotel after the show.

"Home" means the U.K./Britain Isles, and that includes Cardiff and anywhere else on that group of islands. Where and when they play, we've yet to find out.

What a nonsense. Keith lives in CT since the 70's, several 1000 km from England. Jagger spends most of his time outside the UK and if he is there, he's only in London 99%. They don't care about Wales or whatever.
What is likely? They will play in London (three or four shows), Dublin, North England (probably Manchester), Scotland and maybe Wales (probably Cardiff). That's all. Everything else is wishfull thinking.
I've just checked and there are definitely hotels in Cardiff, so a 2 hour drive not necessary,Quote

Sorry, but you're confusing me... You say Keith's home has been in CT since the '70's... should we be looking for a show there? Then, you said you don't think Cardiff because it's a long drive to a hotel and they don't care about Wales, but now Cardiff is a probability. Then, there are Scotland, Dublin, and Manchester, which aren't really home, either, but they will have shows.
