I am NOT a musician.
I have been a fan since 1965.
I in all honesty cannot tell the difference in bass playing between Bill and Darryl.
Some say DJ has more funk, some say Bill played less. I can't tell. In all, say, 1967 to now songs, the bass sounds just bloody fine.
Pre 1967 I think, like Charlie, Keith and Brian, all the instrumentation was hit and miss - mostly - the VAST majority - hit, but some miss.
Darryl's fine to my ears.

It sounds like Bill plays notes a little bit ahead of when the change comes in the song. It gives the music more movement.

There's nothing "wrong" with Darryl's playing. But for a Stones fan since 1965 to not be able to tell the difference?
That's beyond sad. There's a HUGE difference.

So sorry I don't meet your expectations of a fan
Rocky, I'm trying to understand your post. The first sentence.Quote

He's the bass player The Rolling Stones deserve, but not the one they need right now. So we knock him...because he can take it...because he's not our bass player. He's a silent sideman, a watchful session player. A dark knight.
