great tune!
i love the overdubbed version from EOM deluxe. The dirty horns and honky tonk piano. And jagger seems to be not overdubbed - big sports!!!!

The vocals of the official version are totally 2009?! At least the rough basic version (discovered soon after the EOMS deluxe edition together with instrumental versions of original album tracks) of the 2nd second take has only rudimentary lyrics. Both backing tracks are awesome, although totally different.

EOM deluxe version is 100% 1971 millésime to my ears.

All versions are great! It didn't need the horns, but they are so great and in-your-face, that I love it that way too. Top notch vocals by Mick to boot!

The old bootleg (no piano) has Taylor on lead with what sounds like a combo of slide and regular playing, while the deluxe version has him playing slide exclusively correct?

Who plays rhythm on the old boot, Jagger? Sure doesn't sound like Richards.

And is the version from the Hopkins tape the one used for the reissue?

Also, I feel like the old bootleg version w/out Hopkins could have dated previous to France and the Exile sessions. Maybe from the same sessions as Sway and Stop Breaking Down.

Thanks!

Hardly a bootleg track anymore. Officially released in 2010.

I'm Not Signifying is the official title. Ain't Gonna Lie is the old, wrong bootlegger-title.

But then, why?
I mean, you could then post an outtake version of Jumpin' Jack Flash and call it a bootleg track talk. I thought it was only unreleased songs?

Because the original track talk never covered this differently arranged track.

It's an old southern black American word meaning "messing around" or "joking" in the sense Jagger is using it.

So can we assume it's Jagger on the rhythm guitar on the boot?

Yeah, a drunken jam w/ small mesmerizing guitar starts, lyrics too short, promising title but,
what is Mick not joking about/ ain't lying about?
Song wasn't finished. It's still not. Sorry.

The released version is better than anything on Blue & Lonesome IMHO.

I came across this version today, which seems to be a different take of the officially released version. Richards has a rhythm guitar part with a slide intro. I think he also plays an acoustic guitar on the left. Taylor doesn't come in until the chorus.

It seems that maybe the 2010 version has an overdubbed rhythm guitar (in addition to harmonica)? It sounds out of place compared to these.

According to what I can see, that one appears to be Take 2 which is the official version that was edited, possibly in 1971, but certainly or most likely as well, in 2009, with the only new recording on it was a new vocal and harmonica.

I loved Fancy Man when it came out but the 2010 I Ain't Signifying is possibly the best blues they ever did.

So you're saying they edited it in 1971? It seems like Taylor's slide part is different (although similar) to the officially released version. Also, the two rhythm guitar parts aren't there and instead there is that pretty tepid rhythm guitar.

No. I said possibly. There's no way to really know without any documentation, at this point, where as,for example, the edit in Love Is Strong we know happened in post-production. There are obvious track edits on a lot of songs, and most are seamless; there is the occasional hack job, like Everything Is Turning To Gold. But there's other editing, which involves the individual tracks. I'm going to guess that very little was done in 1971.

When you hear these kind mixes of songs, they tend to be working mixes: some have everything in them, some have certain things in them, some have things missing on purpose. So what is on the official version might be just not in the mix of that Hopkins version.

Oh for sure it’s hard to tell when what was done etc. I can’t believe his remaster vocal is new though, it doesn’t sound like any of the other new vocals.

I don't know. I mean, you read something like this...

I got the boxes out. Universal said, We've got a fan helping us who's a walking encyclopedia of the Stones. Can he send you bootlegs from the period? He sent me loads of things, but when I listened to them I kept thinking, Wait a minute, this isn't from Exile, this is much later. I was listening to them with Keith, and Keith's going, Mick Taylor sounds fantastic on this one. And I said, Yeah! Doesn't he? And I looked at the list. And it wasn't Mick Taylor, it was B. B. King, and we only recorded it five years ago.
- Mick Jagger, 2009

... and it makes you wonder. As in, apparently the fan had other ideas or didn't know diddly shit about what was going on.

Mick is still lost. To this day he's lost about what the EXILE time was. Because if you go by what came out on the deluxe album, and read what he said, The first recording was Loving Cup in 1969, and then the last sessions for Exile were done in 1972. So that was my time period. then you know that's not true.

All of that aside, Mick said None of them had vocals... so there you go. And he means, obviously, finished, because the Keith vox tracks are obviously different.

Charlie sums up the whole ball of shit, though: My only criticism of the new ones is that the voice sounds like it was done yesterday. That's inevitable. But Mick likes them. He was rather pleased when he gave them to me. He must've got into this.
