Rolling Stones WACA, Perth Feb 24th 1973.

Camped out overnight, ran in and stood about 30 yards from stage. It was HOT.

Wife is only 4'11" tall, so she stood on 2 full coke cans to gain an extra 4-5 inches in height!!!

Setlist was great but short, but show somehow didn't seem to take off until they played You Cant Always Get What you Want. THEN the place went, and stayed, NUTS!

Brown Sugar
Bitch
Rocks Off
Gimme Shelter
Happy
Tumbling Dice
Love in Vain
Sweet Virginia
You Can't Always Get What You Want -----LIFTOFF !!!!!
Honky Tonk Women
All Down the Line
Midnight Rambler
Little Queenie
Rip This Joint
Jumpin' Jack Flash
Street Fighting Man

First DATE with the STILL wife of 39 yrs. 3 more shows this year too, incl front row Adelaide!

I love that bootleg! My dad has it on cassette tape and I remember first listening to it and being floored by Mick Taylor's wah playing on Gimme Shelter. That's the concert where they sing happy birthday to Nicky Hopkins if I'm not mistaken.

Soldier Field in Chicago.
July 8, 1978 (7/8/78)

Got a ticket from a nice lady outside their hotel...I was just trying to get autographs at the time.
Wish I knew who it was...I am eternally grateful for her generosity.

Madison Square Garden July 25th 1972 Second Show.

Tickets in 5th row obtained via lottery $6.50 each.

I was 18. I've now seen them nearly 100 times.

RANK, I meant " Rip This Joint", correction to my mention of set list songs from 1972 tour. I looked back to my notes. I noticed it was a very short list, 15 songs...and we complain about 21 now!!

Anaheim Stadium 1978

Wow! This shot brings back memories. I was about 50 feet away from the front of the stage at this concert. In other words, I'm probably in there somewhere :~)

I've read a few different accounts of how people felt about the show, and why the shoes were thrown. My take is this: Mick Jagger was incorporating some karate kick and punches into his dance moves as he sang. The first 'jap-flap' (as they were known back then) that was thrown up close to him, he batted or kicked away right in rhythm with the song, and then more started coming at him. Many of them, he was able to kick or punch away. I thought it was a playful thing at first with the shoes coming sporadically where he had plenty of time to see them coming. It looked like all were having fun with it. Kind of a playful fun interactive thing with the crowd.

Then, the shoes started coming fast and furious. They were coming from everywhere in the stadium, and were getting 'shuttled' up toward the stage one heave at a time. One would hit you in the back, and you would pick it up and keep it moving. At some point, it got ridiculous and the stage hands had to clear the shoes off in between each song so the band would trip over them. It took about 6 songs IIRC (can't be certain, it was 34 years ago).

At any rate, we thought the show was great. So much so, we made an impulsive, last minute decision to skip out on work and head up to Oakland to catch the final show of the tour and Mick's 35th birthday. This was even better than the Anaheim show, and they played 'Satisfaction' for an encore (encores were rare on that tour, and that might have been the only time they played Satisfaction on that tour as well. Mick was drinking what appeared to be Jack Daniels straight from the bottle.
