Miss You Live

I think most hard core fans (which I am) hate this song or at least don't list it as a favorite to hear in a show. Maybe its because I became a fan at 10yrs old with Tattoo You release and don't mind the punk/disco period but I love this song live. To me its a great barometer of how well Mick is into a given show and how well the bank is clicking. 1978 and 1981 versions are smoking...I also like the Bridges tour versions.

Rock and party on man.
I'd give just about anything to see it live up close again. yawning smiley

The 1978 live versions are fantastic. Try Passaic, that is the third. 1989-1998 versions are partly very long, but have no magic in them.

I'll admit it was better in the earlier yrs but love in 1997 St. Louis when Mick comes back in at 7:33 after long sax/guitar jam and Charlie does that fill and Mick with the 'Yeeaaaaaaa, you've been @#$%& with my mind..."

Atlantic City 89... love Ronnie's guitar solo

I love this song studio and live...most of the time.
While not always great live, it wouldn't be a Stones show without it.
Part of the soundtrack to the summer of '78..."people think I'm craaaaazy".

The only live "Miss You" versions since 1982 that I can listen to are the ones from the '02 / '03 Licks Tour.

The version from Italy 2003 might be the best of them.

They only performed the song at four or five shows out of more than 100 during that tour. Maybe that's the reason why they seemed to put more into it. They didn't play it enough on that tour (or at all in '99) to become bored with it.

Yes! Best live version IMHO! It's on Flashpoint and the AC '89 PPV. Jagger steals the show. Bobby is awesome.

I think the best 1997 version of Miss You is from Saint Louis.

In 1978 and 1981 when the song was fresh it was great. Now I use it as a bathroom break if I need one. I wish they would retire the song live. There are so many better song choices that they could make but I know it's one of Mick's favorites so it won't be retired.

The ones who've downed a few pints pre-show and during the show, and are senior citizens??

Well, when you gotta go, you gotta go. It's simple as that. If there's an urgent need to go, I'd rather go and miss couple of songs rather than having wet or soiled trousers for the rest of the gig grinning smiley

But I also like 1978 and 1981/82 versions of Miss You instead of those long and boring versions since then.

For me it's become a non essential as it's sounded the same for a long time now; wouldn't feel bad about using it for a bathroom break. Like a lot of songs from it's era, they made it fresh and exciting in 1978 and 1981 and then it became formulaic. I mean, compare almost any Some Girls song from 78 or 81 with versions from Steel Wheels on...That version of Respectable on No Security is DOA compared to 1978 versions.

I am always amazed that people complain about Miss You being played live but not Start Me Up.

Miss You is al least a good Song with good lyrics. Start Me Up is just a riff with worthless lyrics. Once you get tired of the riff ( which i did in about 1982 ) there is nothing left.

I never understood the bath break, my god is two hours! Another discourse for those who have health problems, but this is another matter.
I remember Rome Circus Maximus, after so much drunk beer I still managed to wait for the end of the concert.
Miss You is a great song, great text and great music, not a moment to lose.

Re: Miss You Live

I think the older versions are better. The song has become to long and drags on. Listen to the opening riff on Hampton the song was rocking.
Although DC 1994 the first show when Bobby Keys came out and took the song to another was great too but lately it has gotten old due to hearing it so much. I have never found a Stones concert a bore except in 2005 at UVA when they had the bomb scare I was bored waiting for them to get back on stage.
Bathroom break...........to each his own. I'd say a bathroom break beats the alternative.

When you see more than one show per tour, a bathroom break and/or beer run should not be considered a sin - especially when setlists become more and more predictable as the tour goes on.
You plan your strategy accordingly - chug beers before show, then take a leak when entering venue. Once in, chug another beer (or two) at beginning of show, and when you anticipate Miss You (or song of your choice),
you make a mad dash for the toilets. From experience and a friendly tip, Miss You works well due to it's extended length. If in need of another beer, you can slip out easily during Keith's set (preferably during Slipping Away) without having really missed anything.

Exactly, when nature calls what can you do? smiling smiley I remember a couple years ago at a Springsteen concert, I had to go but was holding it in. Finally, at the first encore of 10th Avenue Freeze out I couldn't hold it anymore. I stood in front of the urinal for probably 2 minutes! Sucks I had to miss most of the song though. Laughing about it afterwards with my friend, told him that was the longest piss I've ever taken!!

You plan it! You pee B4 they hit the stage! Get drunk after!

Disclaimer no I am not a saint
If you think I am strict disciplined for a solid 2-3 planned dry spell,
how about Bjornulf journey getting in line to hold steady then wait
to rush for the front stage, then wait in general admin at the front
don't dare leave
now that is what, 8-10 hours for an admitted beer drinker?
This is the true story, ya?
