One word about virtuosity: I don't go to a Stones gig and expect them to play flawlessly. Rock'n'Roll is not really about beauty and harmony. Funny enough, just because this band plays almost without exeption at the edge of catastrophy - this music only then really becomes alive. And this is one of the most difficult things a musician can try to establish during playing live. It's exactly what the Stones are doing since more than 55 years! I'm so proud to be their fan! And how lucky have we been for @#$%& 55 years? What a band!

Wise words waterrats - Thank you !

Review

Bjornulf was so kind to post my review of this fantastic show on his European Tour 2017 page. And I think, I should also post it here, as Arnhem was just discussed here. Hope you don't mind... allright so here goes...

What can I say!! It was a phenomenal show! Came back at night at 2 in the morning, slept for 4.5 hours and off to work. Well, compared to Düsseldorf, this show was more intense, I feel. That might be subjective sind it was the second and last show for me on this tour, but at least concerning the crowd, this holds true! People were really enthusiastic and cheerful, even in the back where we had lucky dips tickets for general standing. I choose to stay in the back, because in Düsseldorf, the echoes in the middle of the field were really heavy. So, for me and my son, this show was better also soundwise.

And the band - folks, just incredible! One of the highlights for me clearly was Keith's ballad, Slipping Away - he sang this with so much intensity, seriousness and sincerety that it was a sight&sound to behold forever. It brought tears to my eyes. Midnight Rambler was particularly and beautifully mean this time. This song for me is some kind of inner sanctum of this band - it's the Stones at their best! The two blues songs from Blue&Lonesome are fixed into the setlist and quite rightly so - 2 x very tight, 3.20 minutes of superb Blues numbers, excellenty interpreted - with greetings from the heart & soul of The Rolling Stones! Then we got Dancin' With Mr. D and She's So Cold. Again, very intense and rocking, particularly She's So Cold. Mick was unbelievable and very into it. Of course ha always is, but several times this evening I thought that he was more than 100% committed - he really was into it! The last 6 songs were just one punch in the face topping the other. I can't think of any other band playing Rock'n'Roll with this sheer intesity, force, competence and joy that The Rolling Stones. Period.

One word about virtuosity: I don't go to a Stones gig and expect them to play flawlessly. Rock'n'Roll is not really about beauty and harmony. Funny enough, just because this band plays almost without exeption at the edge of catastrophy - this music only then really becomes alive. A question about the tape they play between the support act and the start of the Stones show: Does anyone know the song before the last one? Thanx.

...Does it?

I've had mostly the same songs in Hamburg, Lucca, Amsterdam & Arnhem, I'd say.
But admmittedly: I'm not 100% sure about that.

I only know for sure that in Arnhem, and I'm quite sure in Amsterdam too, the last song was from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

I think in Zurich the last song was Highway to Hell and in Hamburg it was the Dandy Warhols song and once it was Black Betty. The songs are always the same (maybe 10-15 songs) but there is no final song before the Stones go on stage

The same songs, yes. In Amsterdam, Arnheim & Stockholm they finished with the same one.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - sounds great. Thanx for the info!
Now I try to find out which song exactly they play before the Stones show.
Maybe "Let the day beginn". I'm not sure.

It has changed the gigs I have been to. In Hamburg is was the Dandy Warhols (as someone has previously pointed out), but in Barcelona and Paris it was different to this - but I can't remember what songs smiling smiley

I don't know if this has been commented on before but at the start of YCAGWYW on this tour the centre two video screens show faces and buildings in the 'cloudy special effects'...(Although at times they are not easy to make out)

Anyone know who/what they are (are they famous or just cartoon drawings?) and if there is a link as to why they are put in this song?

[www.youtube.com] provides one video showing the screens - although others might be better if you can find them...

Someone Shazammed it for me at a show and got that result, but the YouTube version doesn't sound anything like it. The one I'm thinking of from the show sounds like Doctor Who meets T. Rex. And it was quite long with indecipherable lyrics.

I heard the tape ran longer in Lucca, and that Highway To Hell was played twice (according to friends who were there).

what a great tour it was! Very lucky to have seen them 3 times.

Best setlist is a no brainer: Hamburg

So what was the best gig ?

Based on the clips I think Zurich was the best show of all.

I have been to 7 shows (3x Germany, 2x Holland, Austria, Switzerland) and of those shows Zurich and Amsterdam have been the best performance. Hamburg was the most surprising (didn't read any rehearsal lists before). All in all I don't want to miss any of these shows.
