Bad, bad idea. For Lucinda , I mean. I say this completely from own experience.

I agree. There is nothing wrong with the original. And for the Stones, they haven't felt the urge to re-record studio versions of their ABKCO catalogue hits for financial or licensing reasons in the past, so why should they do it now that ABKCO and their own label Promopub B. V. share the same distributor with Universal?

They recorded live versions of some of them in the studio for Stripped.

That worked. I'm not sure about new studio takes of old tracks, though.

I wish they would remake Dirty Work, improve it by making it all silent so that I can listen all the way through.

The only way DIRTY WORK can be improved beyond your great suggestion is if they removed it from their discography and deleted it.

They also re-recorded Beast Of Burden, Angie, The Worst and Memory Motel at Toshiba. So it wasn't all ABKCO Music songs.

I know. But he didn't say they lacked the urge to re-make later stuff winking smiley

All this fuss about repainting the canvass once the original has dried and this to me is a non starter

Interesting concept, I think.

better to work on outtakes that were never released, and release as "new" like a tattoo you type album.

i believe they have around 200 outtakes they could use.

Concerning these 'Stripped' recording sessions: I quite liked what they did with/ to "The Spider and The Fly", f.i.
That really worked!
"Angie": not so much...
"Wild Horses": brilliant.
"Beast of Burden": redundant.

As far as albums are concerned (so, getting back on topic here):
the whole 'remake'-idea might work (and maybe-maybe even do wonders...) for "Goats Head Soup".
"Black and Blue": Oh dear Lord - please, nĂ³. That album is just fine, mighty fine even, as it is.

I know there's brothers and sisters over here that think the exact opposite though. =o))

Spot on!

Angie was a real live take, though. That BOB-version rightfully remained an outtake, imo.

Love In Vain was pretty good as well. Honest I Do was excellent.

Memory Motel and LSTNT were so so..

Honest I Do and Spider And The Fly were supreme. It's too bad Honest I Do wasn't included on STRIPPED.

And the LARS B-sides - those should've been on STRIPPED! They could've left off Wild Horses, Angie and I'm Free in place of Black Limo, All Down The Line and Honest I Do.

Agreed, except for Wild Horses. That one's perhaps the best of the lot!

If there's one thing worse than the duets album of reworked greatest hits with guest artists, it's the "let's re-record the only classic album in our back catalogue." Happily, the Stones have quite a few of those and we will likely be spared at this late date. The live albums are more than enough.

Ridiculous idea. And of course they'll never do it, it would be the musical, artistic and commercial equivalent of committing suicide.

You are completely right.

Agree, but I still prefer the original (meaning their original cover).

Because of the missing final guitar solo, Wild Horses from Stripped was ruined for me. That guitar solo is integral and it pains e whenever they leave it off.

And how would you rate the original cover to the superior Jimmy Reed original?
Johnny Winter did a nice version as well in 1978 - one that I prefer over the Stones' version.

They could always release an album of Chuck Berry covers. Ones that they have not released before.

I think we would be surprised with an album like this.

INXS did their own tribute album with guest vocalists and I, for the most part, enjoyed it.

Keith has always compared new studio tracks as "babies" and then they "grow up" when they take them out on tour and perform them live.

I'm not sure I'd want a redo of a complete album but would enjoy a "warhorses" redo.

A few tracks I'd like to see how they've "grown up?"

1.Jumping Jack Flash- the original version was recorded before Keith discovered open G tuning.

2. 19th Nervous Breakdown- just like the song.

3. Start Me Up- my favorite Stones riff!

4. Gimme Shelter

5. Street Fighting Man

6. Wild Horses

7. Going To A Go Go or Just My Imagination.

8. Some Girls- as Mick has experienced more relationships since this song was recorded, he could alter or add a few new verses.

9. Worried About You

10. Emotional Rescue- Darryl Jones bass playing would add a whole other level to this song.

11. Miss You- same reason as Emotional Rescue-Darryl

I'd even love to hear a redo album entitled "Open G."

For myself, the open G chord is like heroin to my ears.

I would welcome an album like this!

If they did this, I would want them to remake songs they never play.

Child Of The Moon

Jiving Sister Fanny

Who's Driving Your Plane?

Crazy Mama

Claudine

Stuff like that.

Dirty Work...that record is so bad they should burn it take it out of circulation and try it again....terrible....the worst. Undercover and Bridges would be 2nd, and third choices.

Actually, I think remaking DW would be great. It's the only album I think this concept would work for, because the songs themselves aren't terrible, it's the production. In fact, it's a project I've had on my own backburner-- some day I'd like to record all these songs and mix them the way I think they should be mixed, i.e. without the stupid loud drums and awful throaty hollering a la Hold Back (worst song on DW). Hold Back COULD have been another Start Me Up killer rock song, but instead it is a sloppy, noisy mess. I wish they'd re-record Dirty Work, totally. I'd get excited about that-- or even just a remix! Somebody fix that horrid album!!

Easy one, Stones! ... as with most of their covers then, they do a great job mimicking the sound & song. Harp on Jimmy Reed's is better, but of course, I'll take Mick's vocals over Jimmy Reed's any day. (of course I heard Stones' version 1st, so i am willing to accept that i am biased)

Agree.

But.. given that it's a project that could be done relatively easily.. similar to B & Lin terms of time, and like B & L could be done while in studio recording 2017 music.. I'd personally love a re-make of Black & Blue or Goats Head Soup..

those records are a captured moment in time and should never, ever be fckd with.

Seems to be some confusion..
Original masterpiece recordings would stay intact. cool smiley

As stated earlier, similar to the live Sticky Fingers the suggestion would be in addition to. Also- hearing Sticky Fingers live and on recording has done zero to diminish the original classic for me and likely most everyone else..

There's absolutely nothing wrong IMO is redoing some/ many of your back songs. Even better if some are obscurities. The Stones have a HUGE back catalog. And 'Stripped' is one of my fave late era Stones recordings.
But this is very different from officially 'RE-RECORDING' a specific album.
Because this implies that you didn't do it right the first time.
And there is something artistically weak about that.
I am very surprised by Lucinda to do that. And I never think the Stones would that. It was bad enough with Jagger doing "Following the River". Or recutting vocals on the country song on the Some Girlsouttake album. Cant recall title.
