So The Who might outlast the Stones as a touring act.. I didn't see that coming.

I had heard their management was working on something for the US this summer, but this isn't what I expected, to be sure. I have never seen a show in Las Vegas, especially Caesars Palace....hmmm.

I thought the Stones were great at that one Vegas show last year, Keith was Strong and as good as he has been in recent times, so The Who in Vegas might be brilliant, who cares if its Vegas, i'm going.spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

That's not much of a residency. Not exactly Celine Dion or Elton John length.

It's likely a tryout for both the Who and the hotel. I've seen shows at that venue. it's tough to fill every night.

I nominate The Guess Who, or Yes, strictly for amusement.

If there is an opening act, then it's okay to say the Who's on second... That's really the same as saying who's on last.

The question of who's on first has still not been answered.

1982 was the farewell tour.

Actually even years are the farewell tours and odd years are the comeback tours...smoking smiley

The Stones could have/should have done this type of mini-residence in the past imo - especially in more recent years. Their shows at the MGM throughout the years (2013 and before) were for the most part always great - they could have possibly sold out at least ten had they tried - especially in 2013 with Mick Taylor on board. And had they done so at the smaller Caesars Palace theater, they might have been able to sell out 20!

People who didn't see this coming didn't see the DVD for this 1999 concert:

They also had a contract to play in Vegas in 2002, but, uh, something happened with one of the band members the night before that made it impossible.

They played at the Hollywood Bowl with Pino Palladino four days after Entwistle died. They made up the Vegas show that September.

Great venue, great sound. When I saw Elton there, there was no opening act

That was when I lost the last bit of respect I had for either of them... The Who Those two are a joke.

I peaked into a couple of periscopes from shows when people were raving
about them last year, just to see what was up. I did not see/feel/hear what others did. The Who Those two are a joke.

it's a really good venue. i've seen jerry seinfeld, rod stewart & elton john there. elton was the same weekend as the stones there in 2012. really good sound & no bad seats. i sat way upstairs & it was totally fine. tickets are spendy ($75-$500). the $75 seats would be fine. tempting but they are playing there when it is wicked hot down there. maybe. i have bad karma with the who in vegas. i went down for the show when entwisle died. found out pulling up to the hotel & seeing RIP john on the marquee. that was the trip i learned never to drink & gamble at the same time...

That is being able to see them objectively: the way Townshend/Daltrey come off these days. I wonder if this is the way the Stones come across to kost others; but I don't see it.

doing a Las Vegas residence is just another way to admit that you're creatively dead (and need to make money before retiring)

I am sure a bunch of people see my band like that, I have been told that by people, but... well you know.

And that is why they have strawberry vanilla and chocolate flavors of ice creamgrinning smiley

For me personally, Roger and Pete are no longer The Who.

For many folks the Stones lost a lot when Bill "retired".

The Who arguably lost more when Keith Moon died, but remained viable until losing the Ox... which was one vital loss too many.

Bang on the money there slewan. As much as I hate to say it I think it's time The Two called it a day to preserve the history of this once great band. They are already on an endless spiral of either touring Tommy, Quadrophenia or a greatest hits package. Auto-destruction as an artistic statement? As long as the paycheck is big enough!

I know this lot here aren't that far removed from this predicament but at least they bring out the odd new album or single and space their inter-continental touring a few years apart. What a drag it is getting old.

I don't like the idea, but if I were in Vegas, I would rather see the Who than some magician. I'd probably end up going. I suspect that there are a lot of people who would feel the same way, and that's why this show makes sense. No travel costs, fans come to you. On days that they don't sell out, the Casino has "comps" for its customers. It makes a lot of sense.
