I'm assuming you're referring to Toots' "Monkey Man"?

I'm having a listen right now, and wondered what your thoughts on those brilliant reggae albums were? smiling smiley

Well I'm not big on Get Up, Stand Up, don't even like the Stones version.

So I put Tosh's Bush Doctor ahead of each of those, as I love every song on it.

The other 3 are about equal, all great but flaws ... example, not a fan of No More Trouble on Catch a Fire. Also, sorry but I don't like Toots' Pressure Drop, as I heard the brilliant Clash cover before it, so now I cringe on Toots' version.

I love Bush Doctor (and Mother Africa) dearly! There is a lot of good stuff in there indeed. But as an album, I prefer Equal Rights - mainly because of the flow (I have the vinyl version with a companion disc of dub versions).

Catch A Fire is very good, albeit with a bit strange sound. Some excellent tracks, and with very nice playing.

The ska and soul-tinged Monkey Man, though, is perfection to my ears. More variety, a signature sound and very strong songs. And, let's be honest, Toots is the best vocalist of the lot. What a powerful voice.

I love Pressure Drop, though, and I really liked Izzy Stradlin's take on it, too. The jangly, garage-sound of the Maytals's version makes it charming to me. So no cover versions come close smiling smiley

I like all three, but I have a special appreciation for Toots & the Maytals.
I love their music, and Toots Hibbert has one of the best voices (sound and timing) of popular music plus he is one of the most exciting performers to see live.

Tosh all the times.

He is the reason why I like Catch a fire (and other early Wailers stuff). Marley later on is a bit polished...

Equal Rights is great, but so is Legalize It. Tosh the pot smokin' razor sharp guitargunslinger.

If you can find it, check out the deluxe edition of Catch A Fire, which has a second disc that includes the original mix of the album, before the Island execs added overdubs from Wayne Perkins (yes, that Wayne Perkins) and Rabbit. The original mix is much less polished.

Agreed. The deluxe is great. So Bob it is, for me.

Catch a Fire and MM are superb albums. The Peter Tosh one I don't have.

Thanks for the tip!

The Stones signed Peter on their label because of Equal Rights. It's a lovely album, imo.

Probably I neglected it because I am not a huge fan of Walk. Title song and a couple more are great, but if it wasn't for the Stones connection I probably would have never got it!

I have them all. And they're all great.

May I suggest a fourth choice - (but if not then Equal Rights)

Yeah, again the problem for me is I was used to the Clash version before I ever heard the Toots version ... I don't really like Keith's version with Toots either, for the same reason.

Love both discs but the JA version is definitely superior

Interesting covers. Catch a Fire was originally credited to The Wailers not Bob Marley and. Back in the day nobody said Toots and, they were just the Maytals

Pick Myself Up (that beautiful voice!), Soon Come, Moses the Prophet, etc.

Not on this album but my favorite
