Ron Wood in "Hearts For Sale"
Preston in "I Got The Blues"
Taylor in "All Down The Line"
Bobby in "Rip This Joint"

Of course then there's all the classics like Keith in SFTD, Bobby in BS, Taylor in TWFNO, Shine a Light, etc etc

Dirty Work - weaving at its best even though the rest of the song doesn't quite live up to the standard of the solo.

best solo ever: Mick Taylor in "Time Waits For No One" followed by Keith's "Sympathy For The Devil" solo and Ronnie's solo in "YCAGWYW" on Love You Live.

Best sax solo: Bobby Keys' "Brown Sugar" milestone

Yes Theif, you are so right about "Dirty Work". I wonder if the Stones themselves not realize what a great rocker they have there. Those guityars are killer. And I also think the same thing: towards the end the tune just falls apart. It's supertight and then all of the sudden Jagger starts that weird speed rapping part. Whic in itself again is really cool; it's just that it should be it's own different song...

Jeff Beck plays the solo on the studio version of Worried About You!
Apart from the obvious great solos as Time Waits For No One, Stop Breaking Down etc, I think One Hit and Dirty Work is magnificent.

If even official live recordings will be counted:
Mick Taylor's Sympathy for the Devil-solo, Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out.

One must consider the outro Taylor did in Sway! Superb solo there

Right Adriano, how could I forget the HOF solo?!
And erik - Jeff Beck does not play the solo in WAY. We have had several threads about that solo alone. Had everyone fro the two B&B guitarrists and Taylor, Ron and Keith playing that solo. But JBeck is a new one. LOL

I really like the guitar solo in Don't Stop. I suppose, it's Ron. I just wanted to add that one to the list because it's impossible to find out a definitive best solo.
After all, the Stones are about ensemble playing and not about solos.

I read about Jeff Beck in a very good norwegian Stones book. I guess the writer must be wrong. Thanks for the info.

i agree with billwebster - one of the most defining characteristics of the Stones is their lack of soloing. They veered from that approach in the short time MT was with the band, of course - that would have been asinine to ignore his prodigious soloing abilities. But, with the Ronnie era - soloing has been once again reduced as an ingrediant. And, with Ronnie's and Keith's ever-diminishing abilities in this area, it really hasn't had a dramatic effect on the band.

I love good soloing, too - but I go elsewhere for those thrills - the Allmans, the Crowes...and a dozen or more other jam bands and countless jazz artists.

Having said all that - probably my favorite guitar solo in the Ronnie era - Where the Boys Go - that hand-off from Keith to Ron is one of the all-timers.

Love in Vain live. I've never heard anyone play with so much feeling as Taylor does on this piece. INCREDIBLE! Then there is the infamous solo on Gimme Shelter from wembley 73... this one could simply be the best ever.
