1968 Jumpin' Jack Flash video: one of the best ever?
Posted by: The Sicilian ()

I've always loved this video in its glory. Though it could have filmed with more full shots of the band, I still think its pure Stones of the late 60's. Great stuff.

Is this one of the best Stones videos ever?

Was this Brian's last video in color with the Stones?

Has Mick ever performed live in bare feet as in this video?

I would say it is his last, not including R'n'R Circus.

Yes, it's a great video. But I always wonder how they recorded it. The instruments seem to be the official recording but Mick Jagger sings live, or is he lip-synching on a different version?

I have to say though, I almost like all Stones videos, old or new. They're just fun to watch.

One of the last promo videos with Brian, including Child of the Moon.

From Zentgraf:

680511A 11th May: Surrey (countryside), England. Shooting of a promofilm. Director:
Michael Lindsay-Hogg. Co-starring: Eileen Atkins.
- Child Of The Moon (MJ/KR) -playback.

680511B 11th May: London, Olympic Sound Studios. Shooting of a promofilm.
Director: Michael Lindsay-Hogg.
- Jumping Jack Flash 2 (MJ/KR) -miming to recorded version III
Note: The promos for Child Of The Moon and Jumping Jack Flash 2 (the famous version with the painted faces) were recorded both on the same day about two weeks after Jumping Jack Flash 1 was filmed.
This promo 2 was shown on Top Of The Pops on the 23rd May, 6th June and 25th December. Either on foreign and/or later airings the soundtrack of the promofilm was changed to the 7" single-version.

I guess you never heard The Stones play JJF live. So sad.

An amazingly cool video for so many reasons.
- great song/great performance
- Brian
- Keith's painted black Gibson (which you can see at Exhibitionism - see my pic below)
- Charlie's Ludwig drum kit (also at Exhibitionism -- [worleygig.com])
- the Stones updating and evolving their look & sound on the cusp of another great era (which sadly, did not and most likely could not include Brian, even had he lived)

btw -- if you haven'r seen Exhibitionism and you have the chance, go see it.
Been there twice -- it's so well done, so interesting and so much fun. I've talked to many non-Stones fans who've gone and had a great time. If you're a Stones fan, you're going to love it.

That refers to... what. That makes no sense.

Please attempt to make sense. Even if it's 1%.

A lot of Stones videos feature the studio track with a different or "live" vocal. Or sometimes the basic track will be the same with some alterations. Note Keith's guitar licks on the official IORR video.

But don't forget, on UK TV: David Frost Show, November 1968.
Sympathy for the devil.
Mick live + backing track.
Brian on keyboards.

The IORR version is probably the failed Stones version ie not the LP version.

But that was in B&W. Was that a live feed or a recording? (The Frost show)

One of my favorites! Very raw and stands up with a band performance, rather than slick video production. Although I like some of those too, like Love Is Strong.

Is the Exhibitionism a permanent fixture in NYC or is it for a designated time slot? How much are tickets?
