OT: Foreigner 40th Anniversary Tour
Posted by: Toxic34 ()
Date: February 12, 2017 03:08

Foreigner is launching their first main headliner amphitheater tour in 20 years, to mark the 40th anniversary of their debut album. Cheap Trick will open for them, and feature special guest, Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience.

As per Mick Jones, the tour will also feature guest spots for all the surviving original members of Foreigner, including Lou Gramm, who will share the mic with current vocalist Kelly Hansen.

To promote the tour, Rhino/Atlantic will release a new compilation in May called Forty Hits from Forty Years, featuring two new songs, including the recent Record Store Day release "The Flame Still Burns." In August, Jones will release his coffee table autobiography A Foreigner's Tale, the only official story of the band.

I kind of missed the whole Foreigner thing; I heard them on the radio of course but that's as far as it went w me; they sounded really well produced and all that...i do really really like cheap trick and i think it'll be a challenge for a rock act to follow them to stage, tho they are both different sounding enough to not have to really be competitive and such. i know bun e. carlos isn't touring any more which is a shame he's so powerful and good; really good; i've seen them live along the way back then. they stayed together all these years too; tom left and came back but robin and rick are still there from the original too, so it's 3 out of 4. i think bun e. still owns a piece and might have had a say in who the touring drummer is. have fun all.

the drummer is now ricks solo. bun e does nothing with the band anymore

& that's a sordid little tale. stories were spread that bun e. was ill when in fact it was because robin didn't like him anymore because he dared to question robin's orders. i still like their old music but i don't think i'd go to a show to specifically see them anymore. i've met bun e. & he's a very cool & nice guy.

wiki:
"On March 19, 2010 it was announced that Bun E. Carlos would no longer be the drummer for the band. [26] He was replaced by Nielsen's son Daxx.[27]...

...On February 26, 2015, Robin Zander announced that the lawsuit was over. “We’ve settled our differences,” Zander continued.
“Bun E.’s a member of the band, but he’s not touring and he’s not recording. … We’ve had our differences,
but we’re all settled up now and hopefully we can forget about that era. These decisions that Cheap Trick makes, Bun E. is part of...."
...On December 17, 2015 it was announced that Cheap Trick would be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame
on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
All four original members (Carlos, Nielsen, Petersson and Zander) were in attendance and performed together for the first time in six years.

at 11:40 bun e., accepting w the the others at r&rhall of fame, gives a really gracious little talk...
rick comes on last and says "...they're my brothers i'm an only child and so they're my brothers, I feel for them, and I feel like killing them most of the time too..."
then he thanks his wife of 46 years and so on...class act if u ask me...
"Let's go play!" good to see bun e. behind the kit again; he's a spectacular and spectacularly under-rated drummer imo.

but gosh this is a Foreigner Anniversary tour thread
and they are the headliners, so good luck to them;
interesting that it's UK and US guys together in that band...and also that Head Games LP
produced by Roy Thomas Baker; def had some ripping shit on it i liked...dirty white boy was kind of snappy...
...and i really haven't heard a lot of it...don't wish to be dismissive or disrespectful
...just never into them that heavy; seemed
just a bit too pop for me at the time I guess...
...that ballad killed me and not in a good way, never let them all the way in.

I saw them in 85 in Vancouver and it was the most boring concert I've seen! They played all their hits, ending with Juke Box Hero but it looked like they were just going through the motions on stage.

do you feel chuck berry was ripping out deep profound lyrics? I mean I'd say most of foreigners lyrics are more mature than a lot of the stones bigger rock tunes

Saw them warmup for the Stones at JFK Stadium in 1978. That's an hour of my life that I can't get back. Awful group, about as bad as Boston, Styx, Kansas, and REO Speedwagon.

Seems a bit odd that he has based his entire career either yearning for another Zep reunion or drumming for a Zeppelin tribute band.
Similar to Dweezil Zappa doing the Zappa plays Zappa stuff.

Seems like genius to me, not odd.

I would bet both kids spent 5-10 seconds thinking they would/could/should do it on their own, they dont need no help, they will be their own man... then luckily someone advised them, or they realized on their own, that rolling with their pop's name could/would make them millions and millions of Dollars. Millions of Dollars.

The music business can be rough

Yeah I did forget about those albums and his brief stint with Foreigner probably because they're forgettable.
Based on that, I guess he can't be blamed for living off the glories of his father and and the hopes of Led Zeppelin reunion these days.

No but I don't think I have ever seen Chuck Berry and Foreigner in the same sentence together either and I have never seen a comparison between the two that I can think of - until now.

I listened to some Foreigner in the early 80's. I kind of cringe though when I hear them now. That said different strokes for different folks. I hope you go to a Foreigner show on this mentioned tour and have a great time.

DUDE! you need to reread what you've written here...Foreigner 'going through the motions' on Juke Box Hero? What in god's name were you expecting?! It's Foreigner, playing Juke Box Hero!

So Lou Graham is "guesting" a bit and not participating as a full member again? I don't care that much about Foreigner but somehow it grates on me when a band with only one real member markets itself as the real thing. It's not, but of course they wouldn't sell tickets under a different name so....On the other hand, I saw part of a recent Foreigner concert on AXS TV and they sounded remarkably like the original recordings. I guess casual classic rock fans will be pleased.

Black Country Communion is FAR from forgettable. Jason Bonham, Glenn Hughes, Joe Bonamassa and Derek Sherinian...they're a FANTASTIC band that pumped out three excellent albums in three years, and has recently regrouped and is recording new music.

Where is everyone seeing Lou Graham is definitely back or "guesting"? Cause I heard Mick Jones' interview a few weeks ago on the radio and I believe he was very much all for Lou coming back to sing a few songs but had no idea if he'd actually take him up on it and the first show takes place where he lives. So that was obviously the one that made the most sense, but from everything they talked about they sounded not clear at all whether he'd be even there, let alone the rest of the tour.

Maybe thats changed since, but this didn't seem advertised at all like the Mick Taylor thing where you knew he was gonna be at every show. This is more they are hoping. Also, while I'm not a Foreigner fan and mean no disrespect, I really can't understand seeing a band with NO original members. Mick Jones hardly plays with them as far as I understand, so if its people's thing that they like thats nice but I hardly rank them as a "quality" touring entity. Its not actually Foreigner.

I'll look into it, but how can they record new music if Bonham Jr. is touring his Zep tribute with Foreigner?
And I thought Glen Hughes had his solo career going - same with Bonamassa?
Derek Sherinian - never heard of him until now....a "Keyboard Hero for a new generation"...quite the resume!

That's why BCC broke up in the first place...Hughes wanted to tour extensively, but Bonamassa wasn't willing to suspend his solo career activities.

Sherinian was Dream Theater's second keyboardist...he's quite good.

Seriously, give them a try...it's great heavy blues rock.
