Just discovering the '72/'73 tours - recommended bootlegs and videos please
Posted by: StonedRambler ()

I have to admit that I always prefered the post-89 stones performances. Might be because I am a bit younger than some of you and the vegas-stones (as you call it) were the stones I fell in love with some years ago. I always loved the classic albums from beggas banquet to exile but rarely listend to the 70s live performances.

But now I am just discovering the '72/'73 tour which are my favourite ones at the moment. But except for Brussels Affair (the official one) and Ladies and Gentlemen I do not own any recordings of the tour.

I know that these are the only official ones. So which bootlegs (except for Brussels which I already have) would you recommend me to get next? And where can I get them?
Both Soundboard and good audience recordings are appreciated.

Thank you!

Thank you Dandelion, great! Now where do I get these in the best possible quality? Sorry for the lack of knowledge, but I'm just starting with the whole bootleg thing.

Try to get the 7 CD box set mentioned above at first. I got it on Ebay a few months back, so that's not impossible, reasonable price. Or the 4CD Plug In Flush Out from VGP which is basically the same (but it has less material of course), also available with different title as extended 5CD. www.discogs.com seems to be very usefull as well. Really nice audience recordings from 72 are Washington, Mobile, Charlotte. Also the 4CD of the first three shows on SODD makes sense because of the rare songs (SODD). From the Winter tour there are more or less nice recordings of most shows. Send me a mail if you want.

The Melbourne '73 shows are very cool performances (recorded in audience). Perth and Sydney are very good soundboard recordings.

If you like Brussels Affair please listen to this snippet;
[wetransfer.com]

It is taken from HiRes vinyl and remixed. The guitars are loud & clear

Thank you for you responses! Just waiting and see what Dandelion will send me. Probably that's enough to get started. Already read of the Stones Touring Party Rattlesnake boxset in some other treads. This really seems to be the holy grail of stones 72'/'73 bootlegs, isn't it? So I have to get this soon.

I also listend to some bootlegs you mentioned on youtube. Charlotte 1972 is a fantastic audience recording especially with good headphones. Perth 1973 is good quality soundboard but unfortunately it's very compressed.

Does anybody know where these fantastic London '73 SB recordings come from? [www.youtube.com]
I just found Heartbreaker and GS but nothing else.

Sorry to say that, but to me the official version and the definitive bootleg version sounds better. The guitars sound great and loud but unfortunately the punch of the drums suffers. But just my opinion.

@StonedRambler
You were right about the drums. They sound amazing on the bootleg for sure! Not so much on the official release because of the reverb on them...

I'll make some adjustments

Thanks

Yes the ones Dandy mentioned, and also re '72 Monsoon is talking about that stint when they went nuclear in 72 starting in Ft Worth and Houston moving through Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia and Carolina.
Europe '73 are many of the greatest shows ever recorded by them.
But I have to give a shout out to what I consider the hottest show ever "Sydney '73"! The 'Rocks Off' boot.

Can you tell me during the 6/6/76 Paris show if there was intro music or an announcer that introduced the Stones ? For instance like in 1975 TOTA the Glimmers used Aaron Copeland Fanfare For A Common Man (the horns blaring which to me was the Best of the best intros ever)

Keith Richards (1973): A live 1972 album nixed

"Another reason for us not doing old songs (onstage) is that Decca have stopped us from releasing new live versions of material recorded on their label.
A whole live album with Stevie Wonder on it recorded on the American tour has been scrapped because they've balled that up.
They've got those songs for six years or something. I mean, if we're recording a live show with old numbers on it,
we just can't put the motherfu&%$ out in the first place because recordings of those songs belong to them until 1976 or whatever."

was this ever a boot?

There are a couple of boots which claim to include material planned for this live album: Keep Your Motor Running and Very Ancient, Thank you Kindly.
