The Jeff Beck Group!!!
Jeff, Rod and Ronnie are still alive and well.
Kenney Jones fits in for the drummer job I think.

The Free: 4 members of the last line up are still alive (Rodgers, Bundrick, Kirke, Yamauchi).
On a whole, I agree with you. I think for many its bands that aren't really doing anything anymore, and in that case it would be nice if it was just the original and classic people. Bands like Guns N Roses. They didn't HAVE to get back together. I'm a massive fan and thought this tour, while fun, was pretty perfunctory and for the money even though its a great show. I don't have confidence in them to do anything in terms of new music. But its better than what was out there for 15 years at least. So there's that aspect. Then there are the bands that quit and never got back together. Talking Heads, Genesis with Gabriel (besides one show). Those bands went away so for a new generation it would be nice to just see them come back and play again. I agree with you it would most likely lead to nothing new creatively, and at times can be sad when you factor in age. But on a whole its fun, and its nice. While I don't want Led Zeppelin to tour anymore, I'm so happy they got back together for that one show 10 years. Its the perfect career closer and gave everyone, if you really wanted to go, a chance to see them. Yes, Cream didn't have to get back together in 05 and I saw one of those shows and it was OK but pretty boring. But hey, I'm glad it happened more than if it didn't. As long as you don't run it in the ground, I think it works.Quote

The reform question is tricky because the reality of a band reforming is 99% times way sadder than the idea of it. I think of many favorite bands; now defunkt - and if they are all alive, the members are probably old, or out of ideas.

And on the whole I agree with you. It's just the "it's better what was out there for 15 years". Because there is an abundance of great rock'n roll out there. It's up to audiences to go and seek out new bands. I find that so much of this "it's all crap now" attitude (not addressing you RollingFreak) is rooted in laziness. Because it takes a bit of effort to learn new bands, new albums. I mean, just in traditional sounds Rival Sons, the 1975, Band of Skulls just put out terrific albums.Quote

Yamauchi unfortunately doesn't play music anymore. He has also turned down Faces reunions. And Free isn't really Free without Kossoff (or Fraser for that matter). On a whole, I agree with you.
