I've been a pretty big Who fan for a couple of decades, but have never heard them referred to as The Gits...

Where have you heard that one, Javadave<<<<<<<<

I saw it on an old bootleg cd, but come to think of it, it may have been of Pete Townshend's solo performance at Brixton Academy in 1985 with David Gilmour, Rabbit Bundrick and co. Townshend has since officially released it, but it was called something like "The Old Gits Return To Brixton" if memory serves me right. I'll have to poke around and see if this old git still has it!

Isn't that just a new band with some former ABB members?

Hahaha, yup, and "booty shaking"...I think he added those just prior to their Super Bowl appearance in 2009.

Yes, it is now. Also the title of a song on Eat A Peach. It was a name the band called themselves.

Seeing the reference to what the band members call themselves made me think of something that possibly someone else could confirm or explain further...

I'm pretty sure that Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer of Aerosmith refer to themselves as "The LP 3" standing for "Less Popular Three" (in comparison to Steven Tyler and Joe Perry). I'm sure that I've seen this in either interviews or in articles but I couldn't find any in the quick google search I just did.

Peace,
Mr DJA

Parliament-Funkadelic is also known as P-Funk. This may be a stretch on the original as intent of the thread starter as "P-Funk" and a few other variations have been used for official releases as well. I'll let the judges determine...

Back in the day, the music press nicknamed them Cosmic, Thrills, and Flash, until Neil Young joined and they became Cosmic, Thrills, Flash, and Jung.

The Ramones - Da Bruvvers

I thought it was Da Brudders.
That would make WAY more sense given they were from Queens, NY.

Wouldn't "bruvvers" be a cockney equivalent?

The Bruvvers was Joe Brown's backing band in the 1960s.

These international differences are interesting to me. It's like the way Zeppelin fans in English-speaking countries use the shortened version Zep, while in Spanish-speaking countries it's Led. There seems no particular logic to it, it's just interesting!

Lol, not exactly. That was a rumor started by nutjob Christians in the '70s.

Although it was Ace Frehley (Dutch background) who designed their logo with the Nazi Schutzstaffel insignia as the 'SS' portion of their logo, and neither Gene nor Paul (both Jewish) seemed to notice.

Ace denies that he explicitly used the insignia, even though he admits to being fascinated with Nazi history and used to wear Nazi uniforms when drunk to taunt Gene and Paul.

I forgot to mention VanHagar! They've been called The Mighty VH for many years and Taylor Swift even called them that when she introduced them when they opened up the Billboard Music Awards a couple years ago. The VH website even sells Van F_cking Halen tshirts.
