When did everything turn to colour from black and white for you
Posted by: Nate ()
Date: January 17, 2017 17:47

Keith talks about a moment in his life when suddenly everything turned to colour and he viewed the world in a different way.

For me it was when I heard money for nothing by dire straits
What's yours?

Nate

Around the time of the British Invasion - 1964/65.

BTW, The Andy Griffith episodes in b/w are MUCH better than the color ones.

OMG, someone else who believes the b&w Andy Griffith shows are the best. Re when the world changed from b&w to color, summer of 1965, "Satisfaction" blowing out of my transistor radio. I realized there was more.

When I bought my first album with my own money as a 7 year old in 1970 - The Jackson 5 Greatest Hits.
Or maybe a few years before that when continuously listening to my older brothers 45 single of The Beatles' Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields.

Still have both, and life has been in color ever since. thumbs up

ps - Black and white versions of The Andy Griffith show are far superior!

in britain i think it was around 1969 to 1971.

think we got our first colour tv around 1972 or 73.

i know the scottish cup finals of 1969 and 1970 were b and w here, but american productions surfaced later in colour.

I don't think everyone understands the question smoking smiley

For me, it was when I heard Riders on the Storm on the radio, and then I found out my parents owned the LA Woman album.

When my friend Sammy Lombardo asked me if I had yet heard the song "I Want to Hold Your Hand" on the radio, late December 1963. I heard it later that day. I was in 8th grade and into music, but that did it for me.

Listening to Arthur Rubinstein play Chopin when I was eight years old. Had the album playing loud all by my little self in the dark of my family's living room. It made me cry it was so beautiful. That's when I realized the power of music.

Things turned into color when I heard Sgt Peppers the first time. Blew my mind. Young 13 year old realizing the possibilities of creativity.

Musically, things turned to color upon hearing Sgt. Peppers as well. I must have been about 11 or 12. In 1971 or 1972 my 7th grade music instructor brought in a copy of Sgt. Peppers for us to study. I was enchanted. Shortly thereafter I
purchased my own copy from a local hardware store! I discovered the Stones about
a year or two latter on Don Kirshners Rock Concert program.

- Hearing Emerson Lake & Palmer for the first time on the radio in 1971 playing something from Pictures at an Exhibition. Then I thought that rock music could be something for me too. In the 70s, The Beatles was old school. Their only album that was still considered cool was the white album.

The first time I heard Get Yer Ya Ya's Out. I was 10 in 1970. Mind blown. Fan for life.
