All the blues tunes from Joshua Tree?
You can certainly make that distinction, but The Joshua Tree was a love letter to American roots music.Quote

There's a difference in saying "blues tunes" vs. "Strong blues/roots influences" , so thanks for the clarification (but even saying "strong blues/roots influences" seems a stretch imo).
For me, 'U2' and 'blues' do not belong in the same sentence...except maybe when BB King is also mentioned in same sentence.
By the way - a question to anyone - what's this rumour I hear that Bono is lip-synching on some tunes these days?
Read it on a Pink Floyd forum amidst discussion of Roger Waters doing the same on a couple of tunes.

Never heard any Bono lip-syncing rumors...it wouldn't surprise me if a few high notes were touched up through their extensive backing track system, but lip-syncing entire songs? Hell no. Not from what I saw.
I've heard that about Elevation...I agree, can't see Bono lip-syncing. The show I saw Thursday night was all him, warts and all.Quote

The only "touch up" in the show vocally is the falsetto "woo"s in Elevation, and that has been in place since they began playing it live in 2001.
They have dropped the key down on a few more songs than normal this tour, but Bono is as live as he ever was.

Exactly. When I say "warts and all", I'm not saying Bono sounded bad at any point...just sounded 100% live. Typical 55-year old singer struggle on the high notes, but he made everything work.Quote

Same here on Wednesday. I mainly thought it during the more difficult parts like "wide awake" on Bad or Red Hill Mining Town where Bono clearly struggles, but thats part of the live experience. He's an older man. We can't all be like Mick Jagger and John Fogerty who seem to sound nearly the same as always. Obviously don't sound like crap like Paul Stanley from KISS, but I really did give Bono a lot of credit. He's out there, giving it his all, and still doing that very difficult position of "frontman" very well. I had nothing but praise from him. Even when he was less than perfect, he still sounds pretty good and its nice to see the human side every now and then. I'll sing "wide awake" with you Bono, do what you can and I'll take the rest as a crowd member!

No, but the Stones have never had to down-tune their songs to accommodate a diminished range. I'm not a huge fan of the sing/shout style he adopted from '89 on, but it's remarkable he can still belt out certain songs at his age.Quote

Uh... Jagger has never sung Rocks Off "correctly" yet alone a lot of other songs. High notes are obviously hard and Bono is no exception. Some shows he nails them.

So why go to the show? Everyone knows thats what he does. Then again if you also think Paul McCartney is a "never been" there may not be much logic to your music choices.

I don't feel the need to kick the mentally ill when they're down and out.
I try not to engage, but can't help it sometimes. Nothing infuriates me more than when people barge into threads just to say "U2 SUCKS!" or "SPRINGSTEEN SUCKS!"Quote

Potus trolls everywhere he posts. The Beatles thread. The Roger Waters thread. And now this thread. I haven't seen one post from him in any thread that isn't some form of trolling, and while some of it can be slightly funny, the fact is it's trolling. Evidently he has no life outside of ruffling feathers on the internet. Like you say though keefriff99, no need to kick the mentally ill when they're down and out, you can only feel sorry for them and hope they get some professional help.

There are plenty of artists that I dislike, but I feel no need to broadcast it unless it's a genuine discussion of personal tastes. I'd much rather talk about things I enjoy.

I was at the U2 gig at Twickenham, London , last night. I was in the back row of the Upper Tier but I thought they were rocking. The place was bouncing with the whole crowd on their feet. I have friends there tonight, in the 2nd rowm waiting for U2 to come on. Noel Gallagher was the support act and he was very good too.

That was my experience on Saturday. We're by the barrier (outside) the redzone and they sounded incredible. I thought U2 nailed it on every aspect of their show. for U2 and Noel Gallagher.

I was in U31, on the same side as the rather underfilled red zone. I thought that standing outside the barrier there was a good shout as the crowd was only about 3 or 4 deep there. Also it looked like a good vantage point for the main stage, which was rather high (Rock Werchter like if you've ever been there. I noticed a fair few GA ticket holders sneaking into the red zone and being hustled back out again by security
