There is an interview with Chuck in Austrian media, he says he can't promise the exact date but new music is coming and probably it's next year...

So now Chuck is the guy who continues to provide this drip?

Ah yes that’s the one. Well let’s hope he didn’t just say it without reason.

Chuck's wife dropped some hints on a new album a few years ago (2018?), and some here thought it was a guarantee the new album would be released imminently.
That was four or so years ago, and now we have Chuck chiming in to give some updates, but at least he's completely vague about it all probably because he knows close to nothing...

Time will tell, but it's probably wiser to rely on what Keith and Mick have to say - "nothing to report" (KR), and "don't hold your breath" (MJ).
And then there's Ronnies recent quote “we don’t need a new album"...so yeah, probably best to take what Chuck says with a grain of salt...

Maybe it's a new single on which Chuck has already done his overdubs. Only 'new music' was mentioned - nothing was said about a new album.

Maybe, maybe not, and I thought he was talking about a full album, but a new single would certainly be welcome. All they've released as a band in the last TEN YEARS is Living in a Ghost Town as the one and only new and original tune. Time for at least one more single before another year passes them by, and with any luck maybe there will be two more singles by 2025, followed by a full album in 2030. Hope Chuck knows what he's talking about, but at this point will believe it when I hear it. I just wish they could have finished something while Charlie was still alive...he was sort of left in the dark, and seemed he really yearned for a new release.

This is the most recent statement from Keith

bye bye johnny
From an interview With Dan Cairns of The Times, published May 21. (Thanks to Cristiano Radtke)

A new album is in the works, Richards says. “We already had some stuff cut with Charlie. It should be coming next year.”

So hopefully 2023 will be the new album year thumbs up

This is the SIXTY year. Next year will be the new studio album year. They can not both tour and work for months in the studio. If they compact the SIXTY tour, so that they do not have to add one month of rehearsals every time they do 14 shows, then may be there will be a time slot of 1-2 months next year, where they will get studio time available.

Keep in mind what the Times reporter is saying:

... "these men are of nursing home age — Jagger and Richards will be 79 this year, and Wood hits 75 in June ...

They simply need time to relax, rest, and also time for family, wives, children, grandchildren. it is not that complicated. You do not work 24/7/365 at their age.

Yeah DiegoGlimmerStones - gotta keep some hope alive...thumbs up

And now we're back to citing articles and comments that are months old...going back in time...searching for hints and clues...smiling smiley
Speaking of which, wonder whatever happened to good old Ian Billen? Seems his frustration over a lack of new Stones material finally got the best of him.
I recall him not liking Ghost Town, and that might have been the last straw for him. A shame as he seemed like a good guy, and hope he's survived the pandemic OK.

To be honest I'm sharing this because I just can't wait for the new album. I know that one day it will happen and it will be great, it will be speciaI. Maybe a new single or at least a tease by christmas, we don't know but we'll see thumbs up

Just did a search of IanBillen and his last post was from September 10 last year and it seemed harmless enough.
Not sure what rules he might have broken, but certainly wasn't that post...oh well...since we're going through the past, a portion of Ian's last post:

"I know one thing .. Charlie said like in 2019 they did loads of sessions on this album so far. Who knows where they are or what they have but Ive saw (read) 8-20 and 40 songs they had recorded.
How good they are is anyones guess. They waited far too long to get another album out and now look .. Charlies time has passed. Not that its all I or they care about .. but when a band drags their feet for FIFTEEN YEARS .. they miss opportunities. There is nobody to blame but Keith and Mick that Charlie may not get to finish their final record with them as a band (lets hope what they already have is optimal".

Don't recall reading those so wouldn't know. A shame as he was quite a dedicated fan and almost always had something thoughtful to offer...
Maybe if there's ever a new album released - which still seems highly doubtful at this point - he'll be allowed to come back to the forum if he wants. thumbs up

There are too many old quotes - about this supposed new album - going back to even STEEL WHEELS about what they were on about.

What Keith or Mick said in 1989 (or 1994, 1997 or 2005) can not be held in regard to 2022.

However. Regarding Mick's comments about "it has to be great" or whatever provides plenty of fuel to question what the hell were they doing back to (enter you date here) in regard to a new album?

NOW it matters?

That's odd: it should always matter.

For someone who's obviously lost faith you're surprisingly active in this thread!

As for Ian - what you both seemingly have in common is the apparent love for opening IORR and watching the "last post by Ian Billen or Hairball"-info for this thread. Until Ian stopped for whatever reason, of course. Maybe he was banned, maybe he realized that it's simply a waste of time to endlessly talking doom here...

Haven't fully lost faith yet, though it's admittedly not easy to hang in there...as Dylan once sang, "it's not dark yet, but it's getting there...."
There's still a small ray of hope, but it's getting dimmer by the day...gotta take it one day at a time...maybe a new quote from Mick or Keith will brighten up the day, or make things even worse...
For now we have Chucks words to hang our hats on...as little as they may mean, and for whatever they're worth. 535 pages and counting...time waits for no one....gotta try and keep the faith. thumbs up

As for Ian, he is sorely missed around these parts - a truly passionate fan who always spoke his mind.
This site needs more like him, and it's sad to think he was banned...

Chucks words... Yeah, he is obviously not invited to the Stones business meetings, but that doesn't mean he's not talking with Mick or Keith offstage and he may have caught a word or two about a general time plan. What I definitely know is that Chuck is pretty down to earth and not the guy who makes things up out of the blue if there is not any substance to begin with. At the same time, he is not allowed to say everything he possibly knows. Apart from that, the only people who are really in the know about the state of affairs are Mick'n'Keith as they are the decisionmakers while even Ronnie may remember the recordings he played on but most likely only hears about Mick and Keith's decisions what to use and what to abandon later on.

Almost two years ago...they could have released at least one more track since then...wish they would have.

That's the biggest sin since 2012 to date, a complete album may be something completely extra at this point, and more so if it is something generic or pedestrian like ABB, but releasing singles every 1-2 years is much easier, 1 new song for each tour, or a song by Mick a year and another by Keith the other year, I think each one can write at least 1 new song per year, from 2012 to date we could have 8-10 new songs released without the need to release a complete album.
Living In A Ghost Town was the way to go since 2012, but it seems that they are still determined to find the perfect 10-12 songs for an album that has been ridiculously delayed.

Indeed. PLENTY of time to work up another single.

But no. Sitting on an album.

Two options:

If the material is any good, the chance that Mick vetos its release are similar to the chance that mankind will be able to travel in time within the next 5 years.

If the material is bad, such a veto could save their legacy...

I'm not sure a bad album would dent their legacy. Recordings are for their first 30 years. The last 30 are for cashing in that legacy on stage with those songs from the first 30 years. In the future the first 30 are what will matter, the next 30 can be summed up with 'very popular live act, playing the hits'.
