Evading the problem, MadMax, you chose to make an answer not to Bastion, but to retired dog in this way.Quote

Maybe, MadMax, you instead ought to answer not my post here either, but Bastion's post above, which I quote as a reminder.Quote

Some do. I think it’s a shame. We are reduced to nonsensical posts, snippy replies, ridicule and wish lists. When the band just... well... Ronnie paints endlessly in whatever fashion he thinks may sell (he can’t seem to settle on his own style), Mick posts lovely Travel pictures of his time in Europe, Keith teases us with “new music in the horizon” (none of us or them ever reaches the horizon, of course) and Charlie... hibernates. Good luck to him.
AC/DC, The Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen & The ESB, all “legacy acts” (maybe not the Foos!) can all create new albums as working bands. Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan STILL CREATE new music. Our band? Asleep at the wheel.
Waiting for, what? As Mick once said, he wants the songs to be GREAT. If HIS idea of GREAT is England Lost, well I for one, would be happier with an official “it’s over”. If GREAT is more like Doom and Gloom, not spectacular, but a solid rocker, ditto for Living in a ghost Town... well, just get the bloody thing done and out. Christ, I am 67, they’re older. BE a working band, or pull the pin. Just let the world know... and then WE can put the mindless dribble of 473 pages about “their new album” to rest. It’s been 16 years since a new original album. Closer to 2 decades than 1... Jesus, FROM a working band???
I’ve had a bad day...

It must sound depressing to Mick.. a 60th Anniversary of his band.. in his mind he's still 27! Not something he'll want to celebrate

I'm sensing this thread reaches 1,000 pages of bullshit before any new Stones material is officially released.

At least, 1,000 pages of bullshit (us) is still more creative than nothing at all (them).
They might do it Chuck Berry style, let 30 years pass and release the album when they are 90. Or outdo Chuck and wait till they are 100 ...
Or maybe one day we get a 100 CD box with the new album demos, subdivided in chapters like "Pre-Brickwall", "Post-Brickwall", "Horizon", "France & Sicily" and "Don't Hold Your Breath".
Whatever Mick is doing in Sicily or Keith is doing when wearing his pom pom hat, it seems unrealistic to me to expect anything big as long as the pandemic keeps going. Ghost Town only happened because it was recorded prior to Covid and Mick just had to record new lyrics in his home studio. After the pandemic they won't fool around in a studio but go on tour. But there's still hope for the 100 CD demo box ...
And after running out of setlists to paint, Ronnie might finally start to work on the Mondrian Stones painting ...

but realistically seems the only way we'll ever see something like that is if there's an unofficial leak such as the recently leaked Fully Finished Studio Outtakes 3 cd package.

The mystery is what Mick said regarding the quality of what it has to be when that has never been an issue since 1986 (mainly because UNDERCOVER was clearly not just thrown together). Maybe he was just generalizing but very little from the Stones has been high quality songwriting for eons.
Does that mean he has realized how poor the songwriting has been and it making sure nothing stinks and that's why it's taking so long? That certainly could be something. How long will Mick and Keith argue about direction when the clock is ticking loudly? Seems like they'd get over that but business as usual, I mean old habits die hard... something like that.

When you see they couldn't even agree on "horn ideas" for "Sex Drive" in 1991 (per the recent Record Collector) it's beyond hopeless that they'll agree on anything that would be "great" to both of them at this point in the game.

Mick should put out the songs he likes as a solo album and get on with it. I guess he's scared stiff it would bomb, regardless of its merits, and he'd be a laughing stock.

What!? Couldn't agree on horn ideas? For a filler song? That's ridiculous!
