There was nothing posted on Keith's Ronnie's Mick's or The Rolling Stone's official account. The last thing was Ronnie talking about his bio movie days ago.

Re: New Stones album for 2020?
Date: October 31, 2020 08:03

From Keith's new Interview on LA Times:

This year the Stones were forced to call off just such a high-tech outing due to the pandemic. But after releasing a new single, the lockdown-minded “Living in a Ghost Town,” in April, the band has been slowly ramping up remote work on a new studio album, its first of original songs since “A Bigger Bang” in 2005. Richards, who’s been writing in New York with Jordan and producer Don Was, said it’s been “a bit of a relief to just do what you do.”

What’s the priority for the Stones: resuming the tour or making the album?

I think at the moment it probably has to be getting a record done, because I don’t see the possibility of people getting together in crowds in the foreseeable months. So I think we work on the record. We’re just trying to figure out how and when — the end of this year or January?

My personal feelings towards a new Stones album vary between optimism and pessimism. The recent interviews of Keith Richards (promoting the Winos live album) have made me feel a bit more pessimistic at the moment.

Especially in the WSJ journal interview Keith is pretty specific about the status of new album. He keeps on sharing ideas with Mick during the COVID-19 pandemia, but he makes that sound rather occasional. He also said that he was little time ago doing one session of overdubs for the Stones material in New York (so that was a specific answer what he was doing there with Don Was). Then he revealed that they have five or six songs (in whatever condition) in the can, of which "Living In The Ghost Town" was one. That is to say that there are four or five songs if not ready yet, but seemingly considered worthy to be relaesed some day. That's not very much considering how many years they have already spent for the project. Surely we have heard different (bigger) amounts of material mentioned during the years, but I take Keith's word here as an authority - how the things are at this stage.

Keith altogether does not look like that into the project - he makes it sound like he is obliged to do a new Stones album, and, as he says, "if it were my resume, I'd put it (a solo album/Winos) at the top of my list". That is considerably different he has been saying along the years - even at the time when CROSSEYED HEART was released. The Stones might not be the first priority in his heart any longer, at least as far as creativity goes.

I cannot help but think that Mick and Keith's musical visions do not meet too well at the moment/altogether any longer. Both seem to be very profilic in writing songs - Mick stated by many, Keith now by himself - but at the end of the day they have been able to produce together five or six acceptable songs in five years... It starts to sound that The Rolling Stones are in the way of their latter-day creativity... Keith especially sounds like giving up the hope for a whole album - as he mentioned a while ago (was it while promoting GOATS HEAD SOUP) they might relaese the stuff in some other form. Mick more seems to insist a new album or something like that is to come some day, but, frankly, he hadn't said anything concrete lately (but more like writing all the time and having the band in the studio some day when the corona allows).

Could it be that the new Rolling Stones album will be reduced into a few singles (and say a couple of songs to beef up an upcoming 60th Anniversary celebration) but we might get Jagger and Richards solo albums instead?

The Stones will always be Keith's first priority – if he's into writing at all, that is smiling smiley

However, now he's got a Winos-album to sell...

Always these vague answers. They are pretty good with that. I guess we won't know till it's out. If that happens.

Only one month left in 2020...the Stones better hurry up with the new album to meet the deadline!!!

Would be nice if Keith released some new solo material while the so-called "new Stones album" continues to stew in no man's land with no end in sight.
And at this point Mick should probably do the same as this snail-paced process of making a new Stones album seems to have hit another wall - this time due to the pandemic.

Pride Before A Fall

"Just recently, Jagger posted a home video of himself singing a politically charged new song, Pride Before A Fall, but Richards knows little about it.

Keith: 'I think it’s something he’s cooked up during this period. I guess he’s getting antsy. I haven’t checked it out yet ... a private venture, I guess!' " - [www.TheSun.co.uk] , [iorr.org] , [iorr.org] .

Keith about the new Stones album in recent interviews (9-14 November 2020):

“We had four or five tracks for the album including Ghost Town and just as we were looking at pictures of lockdown everywhere, Milan, London, Paris, I called up Mick and said ‘Hey, it’s maybe time for Ghost Town, man’." - [www.TheSun.co.uk] - [iorr.org]

"Mick and I fling a few ideas across the Atlantic, occasionally. Apart from that, I did get one session in with Don Was to do some overdubs about three weeks ago. It was a daring adventure, going into the city. But we’re stuck halfway through. We’ve got maybe five, six tracks. One of which was “Living in a Ghost Town”. - [www.WSJ.com] - [iorr.org]

"Still working on the Stones album, which was halfway in the works before shit hit the fan. I was trying to progress a few things along, but there's not a lot one can really do except wait for the vaccine." - [www.GQ.com] - [iorr.org]

"We’re writing stuff now. I think we have about half an album done. We kind of got hung up because of the usual, 2020. I haven’t seen any of the boys since last year. We talk, but I haven’t actually seen them. We can’t finish this album that we’re working on.” - [APnews.com] - [iorr.org]

"About half an album. Without that virus it would have been finished by now, we would have wanted to release it about this time. Unfortunately, hopefully that's something for next year. Now I'm listening to the songs we already have. I can't do much with them, a bit of thinking about the production, how we want it to sound. We can't go into the studio right now." - [www.AD.nl] - [iorr.org]

"The Stones need to be in the same room together. But we have six or seven tracks, and we did release 'Living in a Ghost Town'. It became apparent when we saw what was happening in March that we've got to put this one out now. It'll never be more appropriate." - [USAToday.com] - [iorr.org]

Well that sounds like 2022 is the earliest a new album can be released

The good news is that the latest snippet from Mick was a "private venture" and he'll be keeping it to himself (hopefully), but could possibly save it for a solo release in which case not many will care.
The bad news is, that's one less possible Stones tune that they could have been working on, but chances are Keith would have vetoed it anyways as he did with Getta Grip/England Lost as it isn't very Stonesy.
So basically everything is status quo with no real progress being made whatsoever towards a completing a new Stones album.
