New Q magazine Mick says he’s finishing off some tracks for GHS Reissue and WRITING new songs for the Stones new album.

He’s STILL writing tracks for a new Album? It’s been 15 (FIFTEEN) years since the last album and the “new” one has been being worked on for at least 5 years. Wow. He’s still writing for it...

Well, the guy needs to keep on trying - some day he might come up with songs good enough for a Rolling Stones album (that is, Keith okays them)... There must be hundreds rejected ones already... grinning smiley

Seriously, it doesn't look too good for the upcoming album to be released soon if there still is need for new songs. Sounds 'early stages' again and again...

Trying with the employ of my phone to use parts of this original post here in a a new post, I clumsily ended up changing the original post.

I may use almost the exact words that I have used before.

Myself I belong to a possibly very small minority on this forum that would very much have liked to obtain the apparently eclectic albums REJECTS vol 1, REJECTS vol 2 and REJECTS vol 3. Perhaps as much as (or even more than) the album that we have awaited so long to come out of all this, but that does not seem to materialize.

Cannot help but think that this whole GOATS HEAD SOUP reissue project is some kind of therapy thing for Mick - at least if the rumours of him being frustrated about the new album project are true. Like 'for christ's sake, I need to get at least something done.' There everything is in his shoulders, since Keith have already done his contribution decades ago. No artistic differences there.

Seemingly Jagger musically communicates nowadays better with the Richards of the 70's than the one of today... At least to me a thing like "Plundered My Soul" was best Jagger/Richards colloboration for decades...

Yes i agree, he is a master at manipulating the press and everyone around him.

Been away from this thread for 7 months and it's interesting to see the changes in attitude, now it's Keith's holding up the album on purpose. That's hilarious, where do you people exist, fantasy Island. The only thing Keith might be holding up is a Mick solo Stones album, and rightfully so, been there done that it's bollocks. The pro Mick PR on here us laughable, i mean that's what this place is these days, a Mick PR machine with the usual suspects talking the same one sided drivel.
OK see you guys in another 7 months, by that time I've no doubt that horrible Keith has spoiled the album to such a degree that it's been shelved for another year. He just keeps stopping Mick from adding songs to the album, keep writing those demos Mick, soon you will have enough good material for an entry into next year's euro vision song contest. It's called Britain Lost.
Free Mick.

He's writing songs for the new Stones album for many years!!! 40 demos, 30/40 basic tracks...it's not enough?!!!

From Ronnie Wood's interview with Ian Fortnam, posted by Classic Rock on 2/12:

Where are we as regards a new Stones album?

That’s ongoing. We are very happy with the way studio work’s coming on, but, as you know, the Stones never make an album overnight. But aside from our busy schedule touring, we’re just fitting little studio visits in and it’s shaping up nicely.

It won’t be another [Stones’ 2016 covers album] Blue & Lonesome?

Oh no, a proper new studio album.

FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE SEES IT. 15 years god damn it, the Stones do 15 shows a year, just excuse after excuse.

This is just the usual public relations BS from Ronnie.

Why do you keep calling it a fantasy? What are you basing your judgement that Keith is not the one holding up the new album on? It appears that if Mick was in charge, England Lost & Get A Grip would have been Stones singles. Multiple posts in this thread refer to Mick's forty demos and Keith's three dynamite riffs, along with Pete Townshend's quote about Mick's frustration.

Someone could make the case that Keith is rightly keeping quality control as high as possible and rightly vetoed the two singles and forty demos and who knows what else Mick has proposed in the last fifteen years. But from everything I've read, it seems clear that Keith is likely the one that is holding up the release of any new Stones music. It's not that there's a lack of material, but a lack of material that Keith likes.

Keithsman is adorable in his uncanny ability of breaking everything down to a Mick vs Keith mudfight issue as if it's still the 1980s

Mick's frustration might just as well include himself. All we know is that Pete was referring to the Stones having difficulty coming up with new material. Mick or Keith weren't mentioned.

Then why won't he just release a solo album? It's been almost 20 years since Goddess in the Doorway. That would be great 'therapy' for him. His own songs the way he likes it, press interviews about his own album, no waiting around till Keith finally likes anything. At least Keith released Crosseyed Heart a few years ago. Keith's solo musical output is greater than Mick's the last decade.

So you are saying Keith doesn't like his own material too. Also we all know Mick runs the show these days, Mick makes the decisions, it's been that way since Vodoo Lounge, possibly since Undercover. It's likely Mick is refusing to collaborate with Keith, and there is no way Mick will release a Stones album of mainly Keith product. His ego wouldn't allow it. To me it's obvious Mick has had writers block for 15 years now and rather than hand the rains over to Keith it's less painful for his ego to piss about. That's whats happening, we are experiencing years of crap demos and sabotage.

On the Meyers-Briggs scale, Mick is a J. He likes structure, schedules, he likes to complete things.
Keith is an P. He likes spontaneity and being open-ended. A person who is a P doesn't like to end things. ('How Can I Stop.')

Disclaimer, just speculating. But I think the holdup is Keith just not wanting to pull the trigger. Probably it's related to him not being able to contribute creatively the way he wants. No harm in that, he's in in 70s, he has medical history. Keith may feel this is the last album and he just doesn't want to close the door on their recording history.
I said before he was being passive-aggressive -- I take that back. It's just the way he is.
Personally, I am a P, and the thought of completing what might be the last album would terrify me. I'd rather keep alive the fiction that I was working on it.
For Mick, he probably wants to finish the album and move on to the next project. That's probably why he's doing the GHS project. That's his next thing.

Am i the only one that just wishes they would abandon this Stones album and all three of them go in the Studio and make a solo album of originals each. That way we get something good to listen to. I loved Ronnies solo album, Feel Like Playing.
This is the thing though concerning Mick's writers block, if he really could write great music he would have made a very good solo album in the past 15 years. I rest my case.

Similarly on “Don’t Stop” and “I Go Wild.” How that choice gets made — as opposed to “High Wire” or “Oh No, Not You Again,” where Keith plays lead/fills — might have something to do with whether Ronnie is around at the moment. Who knows!
