The last Interview with Mick posted here on that matter (a bit up the thread) sounded almost like he wants to get over with it. Maybe that helps the project.

Mick's comments in that "interview" are apocryphal, imo. He's done no press since the tour started It's also highly unlikely that he'd offer such an exclusive to an Italian entertainment website rather than a major media outlet.

I found it also weird for him to say "maybe we'll make it" don't know why but it's a strange sort of outlook

So, finally the new album's title is out: COLORADO. Minor drawback, considering the title of this thread: it's Neil's new album and not the Stones', but would anyone complain? winking smiley

Stones should do WYOMING

The Keith fans might possibly prefer CONNECTICUT. Mick Fans, dunno, maybe EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD AND THE OTHER PLACE (it's hard to pin him down geographically, too much spinning around).

Maybe, but Wyoming is a cool word and it evokes that certain sense of "Why do we even go there" that surrounded this record from the start.

And before you know it (and before the Stones release a new album), Neil will have another, and yet another new album.
Hard to keep up with that old timer Neil, but clearly he realizes time waits for no one. winking smiley

Can't wait - brand new Crazy Horse album coupled with a film "the making of" followed by a tour, followed by another album...and repeat.

The way Neil talks about "Colorado", he is very proud of it and considers the album having turned out particularly good. Memory serving, he didn't talk like that about e.g. the Monsanto Years. I'm quite excited to get to hear it!

At this point I think that November of next year is the most concrete possibility

I'm not quite sure now because I'm starting to mix up times and statements, but wasn't there talk about sessions in Autumn? (Autumn of this year, that is.)

The question in the thread title has less than 4 months left. It's obvious there will not be a new album this year and seems quite unlikely there will ever be one.

I think that's a good new thread title >grinning smiley<

Seriously though, this album needs to be good from start to finish. They started working on it almost 4 years ago now. If whatever they end up releasing is subpar, it would be a huge disappointment to the end of their careers.

We had this situation already in previous years and there never was a problem. Next year the thread title will be changed to "New Stones album for 2020?". It's a great system: open-ended. winking smiley

Never was a problem? One year out of going on 14 years next month, a new album came out. That was 3 years ago this December - a YEAR after it was recorded.

They know that the fans have this attitude, that's why there's not going to be a damn album.

Anything that's completely off the map regarding these unrealistic expectations. That's how you wind up with stuff like Gotta Get A Grip being released. How can they be on the mark when being off the mark has been their main point over the decades?

"Don't want it to be too pretty, no Country.
It needs to be slinky and sexy.
They want a sinewy, snaky rock track,
they want it really simple.
So I'm not gonn have any f*ckin around here"
yeah, good luck

If we look on a sunny side: If they decide to continue the tour in the spring next year there will be plenty of time finishing up the album in the autumn and winter.
But of course, this is not going to happen...

No amount of time can change the fact they have been pigeonholed

They'll touring FarEast & Oceania in February next year till the end of March, then a couple of months of Family time and from June to November 5/6 months to finish the album

Look, "New Stones Album" is very generic, can be the one we are waiting for, or the next one, or the one after that, and so on. Adjusting the year in the thread title always worked out smoothly so far. winking smiley

So, Neil was serious, stood by his word and the first song is out! Seven weeks or so and we will get the rest of the album. Now let's see how serious Neil was about also Ragged Glory II being released this year (Xmas?).

Regarding getting stuff recorded in proper time and freshness of production, the Stones should possibly can Don Was and get Neil as a producer. Would definitely give us a raw-sounding album, recorded and mixed in no time.

Ah, so we're back. 366 pages about nothing. People forget that Blue and Lonesome is a great album. The best work they've done Post-Wyman. And it might be the capper.

We'll not hear anything about the new album until next year, the whole band will be on vacations/off time during the next 3 months at least with studio sessions booked in early December.

Wherein does its greatness lie?

In the 60's their covers were imaginative and even 'edgy,' oftentimes coming close to the original, sometimes even by virtue of a radical left turn surpassing the original.

Is there a single track on B+L that is in any sense an artistic advance on the original?

Agree, L Smith. I didn't even buy the album. Perhaps it appeals to older fans who still sees them as a blues purist band a la 1966? Or the very young fans for which the blues is a novelty?
