The album is selling a lot better than expected, close to 100k is expected on the States alone during the first week.

Do you think it will chart higher as first expected Mr. Licks?

No, it will chart around #3 and #5 in the US but the important thing here is the BIG sales expected, around 100k, that number is almost a sure #1 on about 45 from 52 weeks of the year, but we're on the Christmas season and the sales are peaking and the competition is stronger.
The Stones/Universal wanted big sales during the 4 weeks of the Christmas season over a #1 position with lower sales on September/October and with the album done on sales by December.

The important question isn't whether it is no.1 in the first week, when all the diehard fans buy it, but whether it's still selling well next week.

That said: yippee anyway.

Yes, so do I - Little Rain in particular is a standout. And you're right: that's what's really important - but the No. 1 business is a nice bonus if it happens.

Interesting...aside from the new covers album, nothing past 1981.
As for the songs, aside from Start Me Up it's nearly a tie between '60's tunes and the new cover tunes.
When the dust has settled, wonder how long the new cover tunes will survive in the big picture?
Will they eventually be neglected along with all the other post '81 tunes?

Not surprised as several record stores here were already sold out of it by the time I got to them today.

My prediction: Rolling Stones will win a Grammy for best Blues album for Blue And Lonesome.

Nothing about the US yet.

Nobody expected those sales in homeland. Looks like they'll overtake Little Mix as the 2nd fastest selling album of the year in the UK.

The Rolling Stones' Blue & Lonesome is on course for Number 1 on this week's Official Albums Chart

The iconic rock band's first studio album in a decade takes an early lead on the chart.

By Rob Copsey

The Rolling Stones have taken an early lead on this week's Official Albums Chart with their new album Blue & Lonesome, OfficialCharts.com can reveal.

After its first day on sale, the iconic rock band's first studio album in over a decade is leading the way, ahead of the likes of Little Mix and Olly Murs.

The band last reached the Official Chart summit 22 years ago, with 1994's Voodoo Lounge. If they hold on to their position until Friday's Official Albums Chart reveal (December 9), it'll be their 12th chart-topping record overall (when including 2010's Exile On Main St re-release). Click here to look back at The Rolling Stones' complete Official UK Chart history.

Blue & Lonesome, produced by Don Was and The Glimmer Twins, is an album of covers, tipping their hats to their early days as a blues band. Tracks by Jimmy Reed, Willie Dixon, Eddie Taylor, Little Walter and Howlin’ Wolf all feature on the album.

Meanwhile, other new albums hoping to impact on this week's Official Albums Chart include The Last Shadow Puppets' The Dream Synopsis, Childish Gambino's Awaken My Love and John Legend's fifth collection Darkness And Light.

Find out how the chart stands in full tomorrow (December 5) on the Official Chart Update, which airs on BBC Radio 1 at 5.30pm, with the full Top 100 revealed here on OfficialCharts.com at 5.45pm. Click here to see the latest Top 100.

I'm absolutely shocked at the Stones sales in the UK

Sales are so strong it literally looks like if the Stones didn't sell a single album for the rest week they will still have the #1 album when the chart comes out later in the week

Maybe they found the formula to sell a lot of records to the general public in the modern era?

The Stones just Tweeted out that Blue + Lonesome is #1 on ITunes in 40 countries.
I understand that isn't the official chart, but still a great sign
