Hmmm.. By this criteria, also Croatia should earn a show (B&L #1, four weeks)... Not a main market, of course. But it could be special attraction for fans from other Balkan countries. Especially in the summer.

Both should - plus South Corea to give the album a boost...

So, during 4 week B&L has taken 20% of it's total sales (1,305,000) from UK (261,407 units), 19,3% from the USA (252,000), 12,6% from France (164,344), 3,9% from Australia (50,880) and 3,2% from Japan (41,508). These numbers are making 59%. As for the rest 41%, I wonder how huge the contribution of Germany (vast market/strong sales) and the two... epic "# 1-1-1-1" countries (Netherlands and Argentina) is. I really would like to know! Soon or later...

Blue And Lonesome is probably the most "American" Stones album of all (in my opinion, they already gave their early 60s "cover" albums a unique Stonesish touch).
Where are the US sociologists on this board an does that say something about the USA today?
- Should it sell more as it is so American?
- Are the sales figures amazingly high as it is a BLACK American album?
- Who bought B&L?
More black Americans than usually? Here, we consider them to be solely in Rap and today's definition of R&B interested audience?
A nostalgic WHITE audience?
A new audience?

According to Universal, the album has sold 1.162,000 copies worldwide during the first 3 weeks (Dec.2-22).
Mediatraffic's numbers for the same period are 1.112,000 copies, 4.5% less, so they are doing a good job tracking it.

Interesting questions by JJHmick. By the way, considering the fact that ABB has sold about 500,000 in the USA (am I remember correctly, georgelicks?), B&L's score after just 4 weeks seems to be strong enough. Because, as I saw somewhere, the overall sales are now dropped 61% compared to 2005.

I had a look at Album Charts from various countries (you can see them at mediatraffic.de). It seems like people prefer NATIVE acts nowadays, maybe more than some years or decades ago. I don't know, maybe it's a kind of "shelter" into this assemblage, this medley of musical kinds and styles...

In the US Chart we find the Stones at #15. Who are higher? Seven acts from the US (hip- hop, pop and Metallica, which are at #13), three soundtracks, three Canadian acts and George Michael (at #12, for the well known, sad reason, probably).

In GERMANY we find the Stones at #3. Who are higher? Two acts from Germany. Helene Fisher and the rock band Frei Wild.

In FRANCE we find the Stones at #6. Who are higher? Five French acts and the French Canadian Celine Dion.

In SPAIN we find the Stones at #8. Who are higher? Six Spanish acts and the Metallica, close to the Stones (#7).

In ITALY we find the Stones at #12. Who are higher? I only see Italians (Hey, ragazzi, I vedo soltanto artisti Italiani...) plus Colplay (# 10).

In AUSRALIA we find the Stones at #5. Who are higher? Adele (#2) and three soundtracks!

In BRAZIL we find the Stones at # 4. Who are higher? Three Brazilian acts...

Only the DUTCH chart seems to be "international"... #1 Stones, #2 Kensington (a native rock band, i think), #3 Adele, # 4 Weeknd (Canadian rapper), # 5 Leonard Cohen, etc, etc.

Just an observation...

So, only sporadically you can see somewhere a NON NATIVE artist or band selling better than "Blue and Lonesome" these days. Another point of view to estimate album's success.

From the seven ranked above B&L, five are local portugese acts, from international bands, only Metallica and Leonard Cohen sell more.

Thanks margues. And as I see, from #10 to #18 there are local portuguse acts, only (some of them, fado singers, right?). So my observation about native acts takes one more confirmation.

The speed of album's sales is impressive, ideed. As we know, B&L became eleventh best selling album of the year 2016, with 1,305,000 copies sold and did it during 4 weeks. To mention some other interesting appearences on Year End Global Chart, Rediohead are at #16 after having sold 1,134,000 units during 8 months, as thair album came out in May, 8. RHTP, at #12 with 1,256,000 sales, but their album has been released in June, 17. Only Metallica's album (#8) sold with speed similar to the Stones, with 1,490,000 units during six weeks.

What laertisflash and georgelicks (and many others) are giving here to us is great! Very substantial, interesting and hardly before dealt with stuff.
One might have to reinterpret foreign (that is non-UK) charts positions (including those of the US) of the past.
The Stones seem to be the most successful act world wide! (Btw, how was Metallica doing in South Corea?)
Regarding Germany, Helene Fischer's is a special album with Christmas songs and they kept her off the top spot at least one week.

You can see the South Korea chart here:
[gaonchart.co.kr]

They also run an international chart too, excluding local acts, B&L is #31 there this week.

They have archives from 2009 to now there, from both main and international, only change the date.
