UK Biggest Debuts of 2016:

David Bowie - Blackstar: 146,000
Rolling Stones - Blue & Lonesome: 106,000
Little Mix - Glory Days: 96,000
Drake - Views: 78,000
Beyoncè - Lemonade: 73,000

More than the #1 spot, this is really impressive!

Mixed emotions since they knocked it off in "3 days" instead of toiling the usual 3+ months... at the end of the day it's quality (and marketing) more than quantity that makes for good sales.

Quality and marketing, you're right thumbs up
Two missing aspects on A Bigger Bang.

How many copies is that?

It depends on the country - see here: [en.wikipedia.org] and here: [de.wikipedia.org] - Google Translate

In the Netherlands it's 50,000 pcs for the Platinum record.

I was reading SHOWBIZ TODAY in the States and they said it will debut at number 4 in USA. It was much higher than I expected but the kid in me was really hoping for their first number 1 since TATTOO YOU

For another # 1 in USA they have to publish another single as 'Start me Up'.

That's not true, timing is the main reason, B&L will sell around 120k, that's enough to be #1 almost every week of the year between January and October but not on December.

But would they even sell 120K between January and October? Many of the sales are more than likely due to the Christmas season (I think you said so yourself?).
Kids buying for their parents, vice versa, and those like myself who bought a personal copy as well as a few more for gifts.

At least, these figures show that Stones still are highly relevant.

They are not based on a tragedy, greatest hits etc.

And that blues still is worth it all.

I guess these news are enough for them to release an album next year with own songs. The doubt of selling enough is "gone".

Hits Daily Double has it at #4 on the Sales Plus Streaming chart and #2 on the Album Sales chart.

What's impressive is that this was accomplished without a supertour or the kind of massive marketing push that accompanied albums like Voodoo Lounge, Forty Licks, and A Bigger Bang.

When I see what's number one in France, I wonder if the charts are still relevant for a band like the Stones...
