Bill Wyman as a guitar player?

I've seen pictures with Bill Wyman playing guitar. How really good is he? Has he played guitar on some Stones tracks, or his solo stuff?

I don't think he ever played guitar on the Stones stuff, but I'm not 100% sure. I read once where somebody claimed he played some guitar on Heaven from Tattoo You. He definitely has played some guitar on his solo stuff. Adequate, nothing too remarkable. He also switched to synth on Fingerprint File in 1975-76; Ronnie on bass.

"Gonna find my way to heaven ..."

Seemingly he played guitar on "Monkey Grip", so I expect him to be an average rhythm player.

I remember a pic of Bill and the others in the studio from back in the late 60ies.
It shows Bill playing one of Keith's black Gibson LP Customs.
Of course I have no idea if he was "playing guitar" or just did some bass lines with it.

Bill plays some guitar on Apache Woman and Every Sixty Seconds according to the credits
on his album Stone Alone. It is hard to distinguish the quality of his playing, though.

According to his auto biography Stone Alone, he bought/hired himself a Burns guitar
(for 52 English Pounds) around 1960, but was not satisfied about his own progess.
Turned to bass after that.

So I guess he knows how to play a guitar, but if he himself thinks poorly of his qualities,
who am I to doubt him?

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

No. Even with an acoustic guitar in his hands, he's still playing Bass.

He said his fingers were too small for guitar.

The guitar isn't his instrument. All that matters is at the age of 80 he can still play his instrument very well indeed. Beast of Burden at his recent 80th gig was some very tasteful bass!

Nowadays he composes with the help of an acoustic guitar where he brings the melodies together with bass runs and single string-work. “I don’t do chords,” he says. “I did play piano a bit, too, though,” he adds.
