O.T.:What is your favorite black and white movie?
Posted by: DaveG ()

Last night I watched a favorite, Seven Days in May. A compelling plot, brilliant acting (Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, Fredric March, and more) and it continued to build to a dramatic conclusion. It is about a military plot to take control of the US government, led by a 4-star general played by Burt Lancaster. After it ended, I realized it was in black and white, but it made no difference, the film is a masterpiece. No CGI, no bombastic score, just great acting, directing, and plot.

So, do you have a favorite black and white film? There are some gems out there!

"In The Heat Of The Night". Followed closely by "Lethal Weapon" (the first one).

Wow... Favorite? So hard to choose one from so many that I really enjoy...

I'll limit myself to three as I imagine most of my "honorable mentions" will most likely be submitted by others...

Young Frankenstein
To Kill A Mockingbird
How Green Was My Valley

Peace,
Mr DJA

And Casablanca, of course...

we, we lost it until you came to Casablanca.
We got it back last night."

Casablanca for sure. I watched it a couple of weeks ago on a flight. I never get bored with it.

In the horror genre, a film from the mid-'60's is a favorite, The Haunting. No blood, no ghouls, just the implied presence of an entity. Very frightening. But, yes, Creature From the Black Lagoon is also good.

I love ''Night of the Living Dead'' and it's tense atmosphere, and Psycho is so good you forget it's in b&w.

For Beatles fans, A Hard Day's Night.

But there's so many, and I haven't seen all ofthem. I remember seeing Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon when I was quite young, so those stick in my mind.
