stones 60's stereo recordings!

Hey, I just love those 60's stereo recordings. Have you heard Goin Home with the balance turned to one side. It's so strange just hearing Mick going off on one on his own. What a Shame is another good one, turn the balance to one side and you get charlie and Bill......what a groove they are puttin down!

I prefer the stereo mixes of Satisfaction
and Get Off My Cloud in some ways too.
A less murky mix and the guitars sound
more distinct.

I was happy to find an imported London cd
Hot Rocks set somebody had dumped in the
used bin after the remasters were issued.
Often hard to find here in Canada.

Still, on headphones, the mono mixes of
most early Stones stuff sounds pretty
punchy,clean. I quite like.............

Is nice to have both, to bad weren't reissued
in bothe mono and stereo, perhaps like
Beatles Capitol set last year.
Of course a lot of stereo
back then was faked,
so there will be purists
who will get quite upset.........

"Down the road again" and "I can't be satisfied" are quite perfect. That's real good music.

Just listened to Get off my cloud in stereo Davido....you can really hear the thin lead guitar doing the melody line all the way thru it........that must be Brian playing that....am I right!?!

I have the Aftermath CD in that german pressing that first hit the market.
In Mother's Little Helper Mick is alone in of the channels, all instruments in the other one.
The US-pressed got better balance, I think.

Hey Davido, I bought the London Hot Rocks 1 back in 86 as an import at Sam The Record Man in Vancouver. I paid $29.99 for it! I also paid that much for the second disc. Arm and a leg back then. I managed to buy all the import London Stones collection around that time, including Rolling Stones 1, 12x5, Out of Our Heads, Between The Buttons, Aftermath, Beggars and Let It Bleed. As you know, these were mastered by Mobile Fidelity Sound, so the quality was alot better than the domestic ABCKO remasters from 86.
The one good thing about Satisfaction on that disc is you can really hear Stu's piano playing, which is almost non existent on other CD's. Also, Play With Fire is in stereo, which I prefer even over the mono remasters.
The stereo tracks that really impress me on the 2002 remasters are on 12x5 like Around and Around and It's All Over Now. The songs they recorded at Chess sound so crisp, even compared to the LA RCA sessions.

Percystokes, that is indeed our Brian playing the melody line on "Get Of My Cloud"

I never liked that remix of Get off of my cloud the way you can hear one distinct guitar. It's just too tinny sounding for my liking, and I actually like tinny sounding music.

I remember reading a long time ago how they felt the magic of Keith and Brian was the way that they played so well together, that you couldn't tell who was playing what. The two guitars made one sound, so when they separated it, as it is on that remix, I feel they missed the point.

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

Guitar weaving, that's a good way to put it. As you can see I'm not a musician. I'm more like the guy in that Monty Python sketch, "I don't know much about art, but I know what I like" (as he takes a bite out of the painting).

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

I prefer Rembrandt with a bit of Coleman's myself!

I find Rembrandt to be a trifle on the dry side. A French delicacy like Courbet is more to my liking. Next time you're in Paris, you should try it.

Hi everyone!

Yeah, you can hear the guitar separation
on GOMC and Satisfaction. They are very distinct,
if not rather tinny. I don't think they were
purposely placed so close together on the mono versions,
it was just a murky mix, poor production values.
Tho it has been argued they tried to make them sound
like the old blues records, or it was the "weave",
I myself don't buy the argument. On my big stereo,
speakers I like the stereo versions, on headphones,
or in the car, I like the mono ones.

By the way DGA, that's great you got the Stones albums
on Mobility mixes! Did they do the whole early catalogue?
Us or UK titles/ track listings?

I bought all of the CD's that were available. If you look at the back of the Hot Rocks CD, it should say on the bottom that it was mastered by Mobile Fidelity.

Yeah mine says it was Decca London manufactured in West Germany,
mastered by Mobile Fidelity Sound. I suppose these were the Euro
releases, that were later discontinued when ABKCO standardized
all its discs with the US releases, red band on the front,
claiming they were Digitally Remastered from Original
Master Recordings (not!)? If so, nice collection,
like I said I only managed to score the Hot Rocks
that someone must've dumped, from a used bin,
after the SACD's came out. I kept checking
to see if they got rid of any more but no such luck!

Hi Davido. I thought that the ABKCO releases in 86 were North American only and that Europe had the London releases? Can anyone confirm? I ended up filling out my collection with the ABKCO releases like Now and December's Children.
I was actually burning a mixed Stones CD tonight and I'll always use Ruby Tuesday from the London Hot Rocks 1 since it's a good stereo version and it's not missing the harmony vocals in the chorus like the 2002 remastered version is.

Hmmmm. Yeah, is there a good detailed and
accurate Stones discography kicking around
anywhere on the net?

BTW DGA, I copied all the lost wide stereo trax
onto a disc, and boy! Does it ever kick butt!
