The Stones are discussing more shows next year, and they really do intend to work on that album of originals. "There's about 10 or 12 new songs that Mick actually has been cooking up," says Wood, "and Keith's got the odd one, too." Richards suggests that at least some of the songs might be unfinished compositions that date back 15 years or more.

Sounds like another ABB with practically no writing by Keith...15 years would take us back to the Paris 2002 sessions, interesting as they used very little of them for ABB apparently.

Suggestion: When all else fails, start from scratch.
Or...dig up some forgotten demos, etc. and try to make a diamond out of a turd. It worked for Tattoo You, but is there anything from the past sessions of 15 years that are up to snuff?
The new songs from 40 Licks and GRRR (and ABB as a whole) are some of the weakest tracks they've ever released ...wondering if they scrape the barrel now if it's even worth the time.

I don't think that video was The Stones.

Not a bad tune though.

You left out the "or more", which includes the good leftovers from the VOODOO and BABYLON sessions.

you can't tell them what to create. there is no control on your part; you can't control the output with your wishes and demands, its not up to you. the human need to control = ugly destruction. when nature is left alone, it is beautiful. let it roll

I just did tell them what to create. Obviously I am in control; I am controlling the output with my wishes and demands. It is up to me.

I am part of nature. It does roll.

I'd like to know your opinion about Ronnie's comment:
“It’s like putting it on top of the strainer and seeing what soaks through by the time you come back to them again. The lumps that are left on top after time has gone by, that’s what you make your dough out of. It wouldn’t surprise me if we recut them all again. It’s one of those things.”

It seems like 'We are not entirely satisfied with these new songs...'.

Does not sound too good at all. But maybe, they want to put an extra effort, to make a GREAT last album.
Jeroen

Richards suggests that at least some of the songs might be unfinished compositions that date back 15 years or more. sounds like a concensus isn't building and thy may have some great things and maybe not so great, or maybe all great and no real direction to go in....i'm excitred about what's cookin'...!!!!

That doesn't bode well. I hate hear that it is stuff that Mick has been cooking up and keith had a few odd ones.... not writing together, Jagger solo record with a rolling stones backing band. Doom and Gloom?

"I've got a lot of new songs, and songs I've written over the last couple of years," Jagger said, describing the new Rolling Stones album. "I've done really good demos for all of them, which I would love to record. I'd love to record a Stones album"

"I’ve got songs that would be great for the Stones, and I’ve got songs that wouldn’t be perfect for the Stones”

Oh no, not ABB again!!

By the sound of it Ronnie doesn't even pretend to have any ambition to have his stuff included...guess he got the message in 1989, but with Keith more or less drying up you'd think there would have been somewhat of an opening for him.

None of his past stuff has been up to Stones standard, what's changed now?

Note to Stones: Tour the blues album, do a stripped down tour, get back to basics, and hang it up after that (your legacy will be intact-let's go out on top and not laughing stocks). After that- open up the archives....

He's a few decent ideas in the past, Hey Negrita, Dance, Black Limousine, etc...

There are many outtakes to work from Licks sessions...and some more with Keef on vocals from VL sessions (You got it made/Randy Whore) and BTB sessions (High or Low, Dont apologize, Young Love and I'm cured).
C'mon Keef...you just have to pick 1/2 songs!

What, you don't want to dance it out or make a movie about it? It's pointless since you stated you don't care anyway. Besides, everyone knows he'll have more than 1 song.

No need to write new songs! It seems they have 6/7 Mick's demos already done. Here's some songs ready to work:
- You got it made (VL sessions)
- Smooth 180 (Licks sessions)
- High or Low, Ever-changing world, I'm
cured and Don't apologize (BTB sessions)

Do a blues jam with Mick Taylor in the studio for a couple of weeks. Job done.
