Da Doo Ron Ron

I met him on a Monday and my heart stood still
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Somebody told me that his name was Bill
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Yeah, my heart stood still, yeah, his name was Bill
And when he walked me home, da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
I know what he was thinking when he caught my eye
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
He looked so quiet but, my oh my
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Yeah, he caught my eye, yeah but my oh my
And when he walked me home, da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
He picked me at seven and he looked so fine
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Someday soon I'm gonna make him mine
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Yeah, he looked so fine, yeah I'll make him mine
And when he walked me home, da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron

Hard to go wrong with such a great song. Always had a soft spot for this one even though it's a Mick only demo. Not sure why they cut this as it's a cover so they obviously weren't trying to get another artist to record it.

...seems it was actually Ron... or maybe Ron is short for Bill.

Funny that Jagger went "solo" in the early sixties already.

One of the cheesiest Jagger songs. Hard to say if it's very bad or fantastic, maybe both.

But but but the Jagger vocal I'm listening to has her instead of him, and her name was Jill.
I would far rather hear him singing about Bill :E

I also bought this double album in 1974 for Da Doo Ron Ron as the prime reason;
after trying in vain for some time to get the 16 hip Hits lp.
A few years later I finally got a scratchy copy of 16 Hip Hits.

I never regreted having bought the Hard-Up Heroes lp though;
lots of great stuff on it.
To this dayI think The Birds' Leaving Here served as an inspiration
for Led Zeppelin's Heartbreaker.

Jack Nitzsche arranged the massive original Crystals hit for Spector. Also Jack arranged & conducted a slow orchestral version for his own Lonely Surfer LP in '63 preceding ALO's project.
Seems like this idea had already been envisioned and produced by Jack, perhaps a direct inspiration for Andrew.

This Mick demo is fun and interesting because I'm a fan but it's nothing much other than novelty in the bigger picture imo. I'm not likely to give another listen and don't think I made it to the end of the first verse.
The Crystals were so magnificent.

In the grey zone regarding the track being a Stones song.
A horrible version, by the way.

I actually like this song. I believe it was included on The Black Box? Yes, the lyrics are changed to a man's point of view, Jill not Bill. He also skips a whole verse.
An awesome version of this song is when LaLa Brooks, the original Crystals singer, was on David Letterman in December 2014 when she sang And Then He Kissed Me/Da Do Ron Ron. IMO, one of the best performances ever on his show! It's on Youtube, I just don't know how to download to this site.

Loog Oldham in his book describes Mick's singing on this as "hurt, slo-mo" and "quite sexy", so I had to listen - he's right!

Bottom of the barrel.
Dare I say the Shaun Cassidy version from 1977 is better (it hit number one on the billboard charts) grinning smiley.
With that said, nothing comes close to the Crystals 1963 version.

* Just did a little research and found that the Searchers also recorded a version soon after the Crystals - not bad!

The Searchers - Da Doo Ron Ron

She was barely in her teens when she recorded it.

She's really pure dynamite in this version,
I've seen recent pictures and she looks much younger and more spry than the other clip.
I'm not sure of the dates. But here she is more than convincing; it's intense, she has command and is beautiful.
Toward the end she's just playing with it like a tiger.

You can tell how impressed Dave was at the end of the songs. I read that he requested the strings in the songs. I wonder how many people discovered And Then He Kissed Me from the scene in GoodFellas when they're cutting through the kitchen to bypass the lineup at the nightclub!
Say what you will about Phil Spector, I love his Wall Of Sound. Stones tried to recreate it on That's How Strong My Love Is and Have Mercy.

I'm sure there's also another version where his name was Phil (which I assumed referred to Spector. So maybe it was by the Ronettes?).
