I'm sorry for everyone's loss, especially his family's. Everything I read from people who knew Leonard makes me realize he was an exceptionally nice person.

The timing was an extra bummer, the fact that he died after this past Tuesday. God bless him.
He died on Monday but it wasn't announced until yesterday.

I don't blame his family for waiting to make an announcement. I didn't realize they waited to let everybody know. Initially the time and cause of his death were listed as unknown, in the very early reporting of his passing.

This year has been a complete and utter atrocity on every level imaginable.

What are the other things you are talking about?
You know exactly what I'm referring to. I think I've seen you post your opinions in other threads before, so I'm fairly sure you wouldn't agree with my sentiments. That's your prerogative.

My sentiment is that politics should be kept out of a thread like this, but that's just me. Anyway, we can now add Leon Russell to the list, probably not the last with a month and a half to go. And given the obvious, it is not likely that 2016 is an aberration, but more likely typical of years to come.

What a loss. Just been listening to his last really great album, he was one of the
greatest poets of the present times:

Steer your way past the ruins of the Altar and the Mall
Steer your way through the fables of Creation and The Fall
Steer your way past the Palaces that rise above the rot
Year by year, month by month, day by day
Thought by thought

Steer your heart past the Truth that you believed in yesterday
Such as Fundamental Goodness and the Wisdom of the Way
Steer your heart, precious heart, past the women whom you bought
Year by year, month by month, day by day
Thought by thought

Steer your way through the pain that is far more real than you
That's smashed the Cosmic Model, that blinded every view
And please don't make me go there, though there be a God or not
Year by year, month by month, day by day
Thought by thought

They whisper still, the injured stones
The blunted mountains weep
As he died to make men holy
Let us die to make things cheap
And say the Mea Culpa, which you probably forgot
Year by year, month by month, day by day
Thought by thought

Steer your way, O my heart, though I have no right to ask
To the one who was never, never equal to the task
Who knows he's been convicted, who knows he will be shot
Year by year, month by month, day by day
Thought by thought

They whisper still, the injured stones
The blunted mountains weep
As he died to make men holy
Let us die to make things cheap
And say the Mea Culpa, which you gradually forgot
Year by year, month by month, day by day
Thought by thought

KANYE WEST IS NOT PICASSO
by Leonard Cohen

Kanye West is not Picasso
I am Picasso
Kanye West is not Edison
I am Edison
I am Tesla
Jay-Z is not the Dylan of anything
I am the Dylan of anything
I am the Kanye West of Kanye West
The Kanye West
Of the great bogus shift of bullshit culture
From one boutique to another
I am Tesla
I am his coil
The coil that made electricity soft as a bed
I am the Kanye West Kanye West thinks he is
When he shoves your ass off the stage
I am the real Kanye West
I don't get around much anymore
I never have
I only come alive after a war
And we have not had it yet
