All About You alternative versions?
Posted by: peoplewitheyes ()

Just revisiting this song after a few years of not hearing it. I think I've professed my love for this track here on iorr a couple of times before (listen carefully to Keith's backing vocals - just sensational!).

BUT! Now i come to you asking: are there any altenative versions of this? (I'm not thinking live ones, more different studio takes, demos etc)

thank you!

Anyone else wanna share the love for this song?

There is an outtake floating around with Mick on backing vocals. I heard a fragment of it when it first circulated, but otherwise only the hard core collectors circle has access to it. Thus far it is not readily available to bootleggers.

Why on earth would hard core collectors not want to share it? Would that somehow lessen their enjoyment of it? (sound's like my 3-year-old's logic!)

Once it gets out of hardcore circles, people make money from it. Insiders share things with certain fans knowing they will keep it out of bootleggers' hands. When that trust is betrayed, the connection goes cold and no more goodies are shared. There are people here who have heard some special tracks. Nico's site lists everything that has circulated among the hardcore alongsid tracks just rumored to exist from session logs or people's memories.

that could be partly the reason, but as most stuff is shared on the net, the bootleg industry is pretty much shot, as far as making money goes.

Everyone knows the main reason is basically some have it, and they feel special for some reason that others don't.

yeah that link was a big 'ol cock tease...I was licking my lips to hear an alternate version of All About You w/ Mick vocals...I think Ronnie sings backup as well on the LP version...One of my favorites.

Maybe they have heard songs like 'High or Low' and 'Smooth 180', the 'ghost' album called 'Memory Hotel' (1999), Licks outtakes...

Back in the early 80's I met a guys at record show in Chicago. He had the rare air stuff. Most wasn't for sale. He claimed to have a recording of the 69 Auburn show.

Claimed he bought a bunch of stuff from a yard sale near there and found the tape. His story was the student was in some AV classes and had wink nod permission to set up and record audio and video. Student leaves stuff in moms attic and goes on with life.

This collector seller did NOT play or show any of this so I never gave it any credence. His point was to show off. Sharing or even selling with the Stones community wasn't on his bucket list. These guys feel some need to protect their turf and or sources (most have to be dead or close to it). Makes no sense to me, but I have nothing rare or valuable. I just want to hear the live Stones.

Always loved Not The Way To Go.

All About You is fantastic and possibly the best song on ER.

The outtakes from 'Undercover' that circulated in 84/85 are from a 26-hour long selection of tapes, for instance. The box of outteked and alternate for 'Satanic' circulated in limited circuits 30 years ago...

How did they find it to not finish songs like this and Fiji Jim, Misty Roads, etc? All the good leftovers from SG and ER? Blows my mind.

Even lesser mentioned ones have hooks galore: Never make you cry, Gangsters Moll, What Gives You the Right, and yes Misty Roads.
When they hit the studio aftyer the US tour in 78 they must have been hot.

September 2
- The Harder They Come III (Jimmy Cliff) -7"-version
- What Am I Living For I (Fred Jacobson/Art Harris) -with organ start and long

- What Am I Living For II (Fred Jacobson/Art Harris) -with guitar start and short

- What Gives You The Right III (MJ/KR) -early lyrics, shorter than I; August 27

If all the blues tunes they recorded, originals and covers, from various LP sessions were assembled it would probably make for a triple album at least.

You mean 26 hrs of "Undercover" sessions or was it a compilation of different studio sessions (SG ER TY UC)?
