Agreed. Going around and minimizing the Beatles impact and how important they were as artists because of personal preference is a waste of time. I will never get why music boards are full of that stuff. What is the point of calling someone overrated when it really only means its your preference. And I don't like anything the Beatles except for their 1967-68 period.
The only artist in the Rock era at the Beatles level is Bob Dylan. he matches them with influence, critical acclaim, opening doors and legend, and a good case can be made that he will be talked about longer then they will be.
The Stones are my favorites but I think it comes down to this. Nobody else was talented enough to do what the Beatles and Dylan did. People were talented enough to do what the Stones did but they didn't. I saw Ton Petty talk about this. He said early on when watching the Beatles he didn't feel he was up to being able to do that. When he watched the Stones he felt he could do that. I think that is the difference.

on the other hand, they haven't been burdened with dealing with 'creative differences' between band members for the last 30 years or so, because no one's been particularly creative.

to me the Stones are far and away the best rock and roll band; the culmination and completion of every great thing and potential in so many different remarkabler directions...but i like to stay critical and hope you don't mind some perspective for fun...cause sometimes these things occur to me, tho they are my personal favorites...sometimes the hyperoonie doesn[t help me love them more...
i saw them twice in '72. i could see and hear everything great from up close. I truly know in my heart how great they are and am overwhelmed and humbled to have hem in my life...

Strawberry Fields for sure. All this talk of the Beatles being over rated is pure ridiculousness. I like the Stones better but the Beatles are the biggest act that ever hit. It's just the way it is. I much prefer the Stones and the I think the Stones are a close second but the Beatles kicked the doors down.

The Beatles were more right time right place and got lucky then anything else.
If they had not quit like they did they would have faded. They knew it and it is why they quit.
Confusing luck and being in the right time place with talent/brains/born in to the right family is a mistake many make.

Happy Birthday Roger! 73 years old today. The Who are the best hard rock band. they might have invented it...
Thank you Roger! I've seen him very many times when he was in his twenties, very many, and really close; I met him once as well and hung with him before a show and really love The Who. I couldn't find the birthday thread and didn't want to start a new one w this, maybe should have but here 'tis Happy Birthday Roger!

I was lucky enough! to hang out with all of them... Pete Townsend, Roger Daltry, Ray Davies, Who, Stones, Kinks, Beatles, Animals, Herman's Hermits.. and can only say....beauty is in the eye of the beholder --each one respected and envied the other..
If we used longevity as the judge. The Rolling Stones are still playing and touring..
