Just realized Shine A Light was recorded a decade ago. How is this possible?! Wow, time flies. I'm sure there's been a best concert films thread before, but anyway.
Best concert films:

1. Lades and Gentlemen...
2. Shine A Light
3. At the Max
4. Gimme Shelter
5. '97 PPV
6. '94 PPV
7. '03 PPV
8. Let's Spend the Night Together

Really?

1. '97 PPV - Musical perfection
2. Totally Stripped - I love all shows but the Olympia show is amazing.
3. Four Flicks - Too bad cut out many great songs, Olympia is overdubbed and messy.
4. Live In Texas 1978
5. LA 1975 - Crappy production value
6. Hampton 1981
7. Let's Spend The Night Together
8. Ladies And Gentlemen
9. '94 PPV
10. Tokyo 1990
11. The Biggest Bang
12. Leeds 1982 - The filming ruins everything
13. Live At The Max
14. Marquee 1971
15. Shine A Light

I just saw a show at the Beacon last week*. Great, small theater.

* Steely Dan playing "Countdown To Ecstasy" + "random shit"

Shine A Light is the best Stones-concert ever released on DVD. Great venue, great picture quality, great sound, great setlist, great camera work plus a stellar band, who could ask for anything more. Thank you, Marty.

Champagne and Reefer is my most-watched Stones video, I absolutely love that from SAL. I don't think Havana Moon will top the others lised but, as a doc, Ole Ole Ole is terribly good, with some nice concert snippets. Haste ye back, lads!

Rubbish, it's over produced with way too many camera angles , way too many Mick close ups and way too much of him mugging for the camera. Very few wide angle shots of the whole stage and what everyone is doing at the same time. Marty could have just put a camera in a seat for some of this concert. Then throw in the phony beautiful people that they put in the front.

Also thought it was over slick and edited too fast. But will give it another go.

Can't say I'm a fan of the vid. Mick's singing style sounds forced, the editing is pretty bad. All in all it doesn't do much for me.

The shows themselves might have been fun if in attendance, but the video...

It's all phony - from the actors/actresses up front, to Martin pretending to be stressed out over not knowing the setlist.
Unfortunate as it could have been a really great document, and expectations were high knowing Scorsese was at the helm.
Watched it once when first released, and it's now at the very bottom of the stack.
The only memorable moment was Buddy Guy.

Live in Texas 78 is the best you are going to get people.
Stripped down like the way we always want it...just the music and the madness.

Apart from the Buddy Guy opinion (I don't 'get' Buddy Guy), I agree.

Its underlying weakness is that it's an over produced record of an attempt at a STADIUM style show in a 'club' venue.

Stadium concert movies abound - there's no real (legal) club movie...
(cue ten postings of people correcting that last point!)

I have a guilty fondness for Keith being very keefish singing you got the silver in a long duster coat and no guitar( "hullo baby in blue")

Ladies and Gentlemen is still the gold standard for me .

To each his/her own.
For me "She was hot" is THE higlight on Shine a light.
And lord, what a load of concert movies have they given us through the last two decennia.
If only there would have been that many movies from their first two decennia...

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

The documentary Gimme Shelter is so much more than a "concert film."

But it's that, too.

People who were at the Beacon should share their memories in this thread. The posts do not match the title of the thread.

Look at the contents of the OP's post. He's not asking about their memories. He's merely observing that a decade has passed, and then he asks for a rating of the best concert films.

Ten years ago -- 2006 -- Google bought YouTube for $1.65 billion through a stock purchase which was approved during the following month. At the time of the deal YouTube had about 65 employees and had become one of the fastest growing and most popular websites on the internet despite having only been established in the Spring of 2005.
