Yeah the footage perfectly describes the gloomy atmosphere that was around the show : the latent (then not so latent) violence in the air, the Italian Hell's Angels who decided to occupy the space in front of the stage, the fighting with the Stones' roadies (who finally won the territory and the space back the fans).

Who do you think took that footage? I have not seen it before; but that was not just some guy standing in audience with a little camera.

It could be some Italian TV channel (Nice was almost an Italian gig after all) or a local chapter of the state-owned "FR3" French TV channel.

FR3 was (and still is) specialized in covering local events that the "big" channels in Paris tend(ed) to overlook.

Last possibility : a crew from "Télé Monte-Carlo" filmed this footage. After all Nice is only 13km far from MC. They brought back the footage and the ed in chief screamed "are you mad? We ain't gonna show these drugged hippies on our channel ever!!!"
And the footage was shelved...

Wow - is that the same tent stage they used for the Knebworth show? I always thought it was used only once.

It was my first Stones concert, at the beginning of honky tonk Jagger appears with an umbrella and throw it backstage ! Keith looks so thin with an unbelievable pale face, that was very impressive !

He lost his son few days ago, during the Paris shows.

This incomplete PRO-SHOT of HTW appeared some years ago on youtube. It was a good surprise. At least for me.
Then, it was copied and released on "Sunday In The Park" (SODD 126/127/128).

Origin is surely NOT Freddie Hausser.

Also thanks to the guy who un-earthed a complete audio recording of this song and posted it on Dime, along with the "classic" tape that missed it. Later copied and released on DAC-094.

Thanks a lot for posting this very rare footage.
This was the first time I saw the Stones in person. I had been waiting during 13 years since 1963.
The first song of the gig was Honky Tonk Women. I remember the whole gig as if it was to-day. I was right in front of stage.
I am still keeping my ticket.

This is news footage, aired in 1976 and available ever since, in worse quality though. There's also a bit from SFM.
