History: Secret show Amsterdam at Wester Gas Fabriek (1995-1999?)

The rumours of a secret BOSTON gig going around and being a STICKY here on IORR made me think of some other rumour about a secret gig before everybody was "on line" connected worldwide.

Can't remember what year this was told to me, but THE ROLLING STONES played a secret gig at De Westergas Fabriek in Amsterdam.

De Westergas Fabriek is a well known location where a lot of so called popular programmes for the general public are being produced for years with a lot of "celebritiesZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz".

This was in the years when the Stones rehearsed in AMSTERDAM before BTB and LICKS Tours I guess.

Some one heard about this?

Oh.
Could be you were not part of the "In Crowd" at the time.

Or maybe only the B-stones played there (Tim Ries, Bernard Fowler, Blondie Chaplin) at the time.
Would only be right...grinning smiley

Ive been living a 3 minutes walk from the AWGF for 25 years and I know a lot of Stones Fans around. Never heard about it, so it's very unlikely. There was a poster hanging in one of the buildings 1n 1996 announcing a MT Gig in Amstelveen. I enjoyed that show.

They held a party for the crew in 2003 at the Panama Club in Amsterdam, and rumoured was they would play there as well. They did not play, but all of the Stones attended the party at some point. It was rumoured at the time that the party would be in the Westergasfabriek.

Correct I went there one day in 1999 and you could hear the rehearsals outside. There were some 50-60 people there. One Hit To The Body was played, so it must have been may 24, 1999 accordig to www.nzentgraf.de

18th - 21st and 23rd - 24th May: Amsterdam, Holland, Focus Studios. Tour-rehearsals. Apart from the songs played on the tour, they also rehearsed (all unverified):
- Can’t You Hear Me Knocking (MJ/KR) -18th or 19th May
- Salt Of The Earth (MJ/KR) -18th or 19th May, 20th May,23rd
- Ventilator Blues (MJ/KR/MT) -18th or 19th May
- Mona (Ellas McDaniel) -18th or 19th May
- Sweet Virginia (MJ/KR) -18th or 19th May, 20th May
- Beast Of Burden (MJ/KR) -20th May
- You Can't Always Get What You Want (MJ/KR) -20th May
- Just My Imagination (Norman Whitfield/Barrett Strong),20th
- No Expectations (MJ/KR) -20th May
- When The Whip Comes Down (MJ/KR) -18th or 19th May, 23rd
- Slipping Away (MJ/KR) -23rd May
- One Hit (MJ/KR/RW) -24th May
- Love Is Strong (MJ/KR) -24th May

One more thought comes to mind, maybe in relation with the "secret" show in Foxboro (near Boston) tonight.

This show today is so secret it only leaked out yesterday... says something... in these days of the worldwide web 24/7.

People who (are today) were invited to this kind of secret shows in the past (pre-internet or people with no internet connection at the time) did not care about spreading the news.
Also they were not particulary interested in the first place in THE ROLLING STONES and probably were told let's keep this a secret by the organisation they work(ed) for.
