4 and a half.

The new issue of UNCUT has it as album of the month and gives it 5-stars.

Its the most glowing review I've ever read of a new Stones album in the UK press for as long as I've been a fan.

for me ABB is also ***** and in the same league with Aftermath(UK/US), Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile and Some Girls
(I do not compare those albums, they are too different to be compared, I just love them all)

if the big fours are *****
and Aftermath, B&B SG and TY are **** and a half
ABB might as well be ****

anyway i'd have preffered them to edit it cutting some songs. would have stayed up there on that second line

I won't include pre-Beggars albums (just too difficult to reconcile with the others, IMO).

For a Stones album compared with the rest of their output I would give it ***

As an album from a bunch of 60 year olds past their creative prime and taking into account their releases over the past 20 years or so then it is ****

Well, to give ** to ABB, VL, B2B and at the same time *** to IORR and ER is RIDICULOUS in my opinion.
and I don't think that age or any other personal details should be taken in consideration.

Two stars ain't necessarily that bad - this is all relative stuff. I'm not going there yet - but two stars could still make it their best album in 22 years. That surprises me. It's definitely not better for me than any pre-1985 album, though...nor did I expect it to be. Song writing has dropped off, musicianship level has dropped off...those are facts that are painfully evident over the past two decades. You don't suddenly reverse those things because you "want to" make a great album. For me the weaker tracks on ABB could have easily been improved with better vocal tracks. MJ's "catastrophic sobriety" in the studio has become the second biggest problem in the band next to Woody's well-discussed "issues."
