I keep finding it fascinating that a team can be completely superior to its opponent, and then the next day it is reversed. Same teams, same players, just a day later.

It's called pitching for better or worse.

In reality you can say that for any sport. Look at tennis, where you might win the first set 6-2 but then lose the next 6-0.

Eggzactly! It is just a day to day circumstance, some days hitters will be hot, other days cold, you can just never tell.

It can't just be pitching ... Although the Cubs had Arrieta in game 2 and Cleveland had Kluber in game 1 ... Lester has been the Cubs best pitcher this year, and he pitched game 1, so they had their better choice start that game and cleveland still won.

It's a game where any team can get hot at the right time and win it.

Agree, but tennis is an individual sport and baseball a team sport. Not the whole team could have an off-day, right?

Just trying to understand this smiling smiley

Koen,

Even without the whole team having an off day, it's still not all that easy for a team to score multiple runs.

Considering that the batters are only successful at getting on base apx. 1 out of 3 times they go to bat, even if all of the players on a team were to play a game at or above their average, unless multiple players get on base in a single inning (or hit home runs or extra base hits) the probability is still low that the team will score many runs. In other words, even when a team has an above average day, there's still a chance that they won't score at all and it could end up looking like they were dominated.

Baseball's kinda fun that way. Kinda infuriating too!

Peace,
Mr DJA

Can the Cubs win 3 in a row at home and "sweep" the series?

HOPEFULLY!!!!!!!!

Cleveland win 1-0. A shut out for their pitchers.
A little tense for them that last Cubs at bat tho with men on 2nd and 3rd two out, they had a good chance, a lot of tension, a good battle.
Thrill a minute that last half inning.
Series Cleveland 2 games, Chicago 1 game
Game 4 tomorrow night.

Yes the whole team can have an off-day. It happens every year in every professional sport in North America.

Certainly it would be a travesty if Cleveland wins the MLB Championship.

The Cleveland Indians were one of the best teams in MLB this year. They were on fire all year. In no way would it be false, absurd, or a distorted representation of 2016 MLB if the tribe wins the Championship.

WAHOO!!!

No to mention that the AL dominates the NL in the All Star game, which (now) decides home field advantage in the MLB Championship series, winning 75 percent of the All Star games in the last 20 years. BOOM!!

Pretty amazing game. Cleveland 7, Chicago 2
Cleveland leads the series 3 to 1. One win away from World Champions for the first time since 1948. And they have won 2 games in a row from Chicago IN Chicago. Last Chicago game is tomorrow. No one really ever expected the Indians to jump so far ahead so fast I don't think. If they lose tomorrow, they still have two more chances, if needed, at their home park in Cleveland. What a show no matter what happens now. I'd say a really good series so far. Cleveland bats really opened up tonight.

It was a bit of a joke. You know, Cleveland... the Mistake By The Lake and all that.

OK, so Cleveland is winning the World Series. Unless the Cubs make an incredible comeback. Maybe not the greatest, but one of them, especially given the history with this being over 100 years. Can't say I'm upset by Cleveland. They deserve it if they win. But hey, you can't say it wouldn't be cool if the Cubs came back and won the next 3 straight games.

Are the Cubs going to show up for this series or what?

Are the crowds at Wrigley always so quiet? I noticed this even during the NLCS.

I would bet the Cubs win tonight (they have a good pitcher going to tonight) and then the Indians win it all in game 6 back at home.

The Cub will be fine for the next few years, they seem to have a team built to win for a while.... now they just need to allow goats in the stadium and... grinning smiley

It seems to all be true- Here is the goat commenting about being insulted and kicked out of Wrigley field

Mr Wrigley simply replied "I aint afraid of no goat"

Then Bill Murray said "Who ya gonna call?"

Oh Eddie Veder.. come on man...

anyway... as boring as I often here baseball is from nonfans/tourists/causalyaddas... Late October MLB is intense, especially for the teams fans watching in late innings as their pitcher is fighting to hold a 3-2 score with 2 men on on threatening, 2 outs, but threatening... the season hanging on every pitch... dwindling hope... GET THIS PITCH!!! and then...

What do you think of Americans now? I just want to say I disagree with Cleveland's mascot and their team name. It's Halloween. What better time for a double entendre?

But I also disagree with the Cubs being "the good guys" in the series. Sure, they haven't won one for a while. Well, that's sports. One team wins. One team loses. Sometimes one team loses for a long time.

Cleveland is destined for greatness this year: just prepare yourselves for the loss, Chicagoans, and I'm sorry. Chicago is a great town! And so is Cleveland!

Socrates, I just watched Anthony Bourdains new show from Houston, Texas about what a melting pot of diverse immigrants who are successful, happy and grateful.
That made me feel good too about this country. (Neutral on this topic)
I cannot weigh any opinion on the World Series, just happened to watch the full game 5 and was riveted. Guess I'm a romantic.

Edited, double word
