Great article. A little surprised that, in his discussion of Beggars, the author didn't mention Prodigal Son, certainly one of the "blackest" sounding records in the band's catalog.

Elijah Wald wrote a book called How the Beatles Destroyed Rock & Roll
but the title is mainly a way to make fun of critics who say Whiteman destroyed jazz and such stuff.
That's an interesting read, even if one disagrees with him. I'll try to find time to read this article someday ...

I think the author is trying very hard to blame the Stones for things that weren't actually down to them personally but to the times and places they lived in.

Exactly, and by the way is countrymusic from the 30ies closest to be call what today is rock n roll...blues on the other hand...
