Surely the instruments/guitars were recorded on their own individual track and the nearly "mono" mix we're getting on some tracks is a production decision they made?

On Just Your Fool as well? They really sound like a one track guitar recording with two guitars.

There might be bleeding from the live take, and Ronnie's guitar track could have been mixed down, of course. But it doesn't really sound that way?

On a standard mono mix, wouldn't the different instrument still be placed around to their individual spaces in the soundscape? That doesn't seem to be the case here with the guitar on Just Your Fool..

I'm 69 years old, and stones fan off 1963. I was 15 years old. Now with this album blue and lonely I'm 15 again hahaha. Great album, and swinging drums from Watts, and driving guitars plus fantastic harmonica and voice of Mick Jagger. Sorry for my bad english, my Dutch is already bad. The blues is back.

Not necessarily.

Older recording techniques from the 50s & 60s often involved just micing the room, rather than the individual instruments.

The best results are often achieved using a combination of the two approaches.

...and there's lot more to producing and mastering a good recording than deciding which instruments come out of which speaker winking smiley

...Don´t need the harmonica in every song ...

Really? I love it! ... They've been harmonica 'lacking' more in the later year releases compared to the first couple albums. I always loved it when tracks like Black Limo or Love Is Strong came on, just for that!

It´s not like I don´t love it - I just don´t need it every song

I do spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

No complaint here at all.

A last album obvious for a band which start and will probably end with the blues.

At first listen, "Hate to see you Go" is the track I like the most so far !!!

The Rolling Stones: 'We are theatre and reality at the same time'

The band’s best album in decades is an ‘accidental’ covers collection of songs by their early heroes. Backstage in Boston they talk about playing until they’re dead, Prince opening for them in his knickers and what Bob Dylan really thinks about his Nobel prize

No, he says "I've kind of had enough of it really".

Right, and he's referencing all the media pre-release obligations. Will they record this month for a new album like they did a year ago?

No bonus track advertised ... Just a T in the Deluxe ...

SACD --- You would think so but hey at this stage who really knows ..
Thanks!

It's 42:42, to be exact smiling smiley The reason is to better the sound, although that isn't necessarily always the case.

Thanks for the link, so Mick and Keith DO discuss the "Vegas Stones" :
Quote

Mick and I were watching Bob’s first set and it sounded good, the band was great, and I said, ‘Mick, notice – very little concession to showbusiness,’ and Mick went, ‘Yeahhh, right.’”

To me the vinyl sounds a bit cleaner than the cd. A little less distorted.

What a great feeling, listening to a brand new Stones studio album. I was not sure I'd ever experience that again. smileys with beer

I should sound better on two discs.

Yes...42 minutes will fit easily on single disc but 2 discs will still allow better mastering with a greater dynamic range.

I hear you, yet I don't hear it winking smiley

I don't hear it too ofen these days either.winking smiley

It's nice to have the vinyl... but the "art" of mastering it needs to be recaptured.

With all the talk about how this album was recorded, I'm keen to hear how it's been mastered... and how it subsequently sounds on a half way decent record playing system.

A vinyl album can't be brickwalled like a CD or digital album can be. That's like an secret passage of vinyl that can't be ruined.

Interesting. I don't recall seeing even one thing negative from anyone on this board who has heard the album. I am sure there will eventually be some dissenters, but so far it's unanimous love for this fine album!!

I still can't get enough of it, it just gets better with each listen. Just, wow!

Mind you, there will be. Complaints about few Keith-solos and Mick's mannered singing will soon shower over us smiling smiley

There shouldn't be - this is different. This isn't bad Stones (Might As Well Get Juiced, Sweet Neo Con, Rock And A Hard Place etc) amongst good songs with bad singing and playing (Streets Of Love, Following The River, any mindless overdubs Keith did for EOMS and SG extras).

This is the shit.
