Re: The Rolling Stones new blues album "Blue & Lonesome" due out Dec 2

I do not think it is good to compare music above some level with better/worse style. I believe that above some level (e.g. excluding bad/weak albums like Dirty Work - I play it sometimes by the way smiling smiley or unfinished outtakes like Indian Girl) it is a matter of individual preference and also judgement in time.

For sure Blue and Lonesome is at least very decent contribution to blues albums and in this sense it surely shines above that level. The rest is as I wrote a matter of taste ....

And in this sense he should not be distorted on some tracks, since there is nothing to hide.

He sings through the harp mic, hence his voice is distorted just like his heroes voices were. Hardly surprising. I think it sounds cool, and it's not the case on all tracks.

Yes on some tracks it works. On some much less. Maybe in a week or so I can post which work well and which not.

...All Your Love. Just amazing the way he sounds. RW has many moments also. Watts beat is powerful. I'm done fawning.

Yes on All your love distortion does not do harm.

This album will be a footnote.
It's not a great release.
Sorry.

Just Your Fool, Blue And Lonesome, Ride 'Em On Down, Hoo Doo Blues and Little Rain
are the best for me.

Great Mick, Charlie and Clapton work.

Clapton is just fantastic on "I Can't Quit You Baby".

I can't wait to hear what "works" well ... to your ears. It all "works" well to mine. It actually SOUNDS fine, it doesn't have to "WORK".

I actually prefer to listen, not analyse. Just enjoy it, know what I mean?

Yes I know what you mean but I am convinced some tracks should not have had distortion.

BTW does anybody know if e.g. the Itunes or vinyl version is mastered with the same distortion level as CD ?

Nothing on the two Clapton songs that Ronnie couldn´t have done.
In the German Rolling Stone there is a good quote
from Wolfgang Doebeling: "Eric Clapton is on 2 songs but he doesn´t harm them!"

Lots of minor chords played and not that many 7th. I can also ear echoes of "Stray cat blues" and "@#$%& blues" and other songs written by mick and Keith. It is the record of the origin of the rolling stones song species.
Rockandroll,

I'd rather see The Rolling Stones to appear in a Rolling Stones video than Kristen Stewart.

I've watched that video a couple times and I think given Kristen's persona of edginess and rebellion (at least what she puts out to the public or attempts to put out), she is perfect for that video.

PS- In listening to the Blue and Lonesome, as a whole, I think it is a very solid record. Although it is too early to tell, it possible that this record could surprise a lot of people and do well. If this were to be the band's last recorded work together, it is a great way to go out-full circle stuff here!

I love the Stones work until 1978.

After it's another thing... Especially live...

Don't think Ronnie can play a solo like Clapton but well... No problem.

This album is Mick and Charlie one IMO.

Playing it this morning, I just love this album. IMO it is a Fantastic album.
I was impressed with the video for Ride 'Em On Down.
Played this album 5 times yesterday. Just don't understand how a Stones fan would not like this album.

my take on B&L is this.. started listening to it this Saturday morning (London time) doing what all londoner's' do on a Saturday morning. domestic shit. Bugger..
by the time id done that had realized its now on in forth play. yer I did have to replay the CD. anyhow on the forth time sat down an opened some vino
and this is where ya need to have imagination or fantsey which ever you prefer ..
Your in West London round Twickenham, Richmond or Ele pie and its in the mid to late 60s. your in a bar/club or pub and its late Sunday afternoon early evening and
there is only about 20 odd people in the place. your with the one ya wana be with and then these cats come out and give ya 30 or more minutes of these sounds.
if ya can do that then this is as kool/raw as it gets without being in the said fantesy. luckily I'm old enough to indulge myself in that.. Kinda makes Monday Morning just that tad
more bearable as winter comes to my door... but hey, thats just me
