I look forward to Clapton's contributions to this upcoming Stones project.

Agreed, Clapton doesn't have the same chops as in 1989 anymore but his tone and touch is better than ever imo. It will be nice to hear some tasteful soloing from him on this record. Don't need to hear his singing, though.

Keith said "a lot of Little Walter stuff and quite a lot of Howlin' Wolf but the titles I can't reveal at the moment. I can't quite remember them and I haven't got a list with me (laughs). There's a lot of Chicago blues."

An all blues album will be a commercial bust.

I remember suggesting in 2012 that they do an album of R&B covers similar to the first 5 albums as a no pressure thing for the band to do in terms of songwriting, production, critical expectations etc and there was a lot of hostility on the board. How times have changed!

Side Note:
1st: I'm an American who can easily be confused by the British/European dates even after the 12th of the month.

2nd: I can't be critical as, for storage/search reasons, at my office and home I've started using a format of yyyy-mm-dd in file names as it makes it possible to be sure you can have a sorting result in showing either the oldest or newest file at the top depending on your preference.

Now Back on topic:
Although I've been looking forward to this album since it was first announced/rumored, it just dawned on me that, I really hope one or more of the tunes on this album turn out to be Stones versions of songs that I have already played with my blues bands over the past 20 years. I've played more than a few tunes that the Stones "did first" but I think it will be cool if I get the opportunity to listen to a Stones version and compare it to a version that I've already done. Does that make sense to anyone? Musicians? Anyone having similar thoughts?

Peace,
Mr DJA

The correct american way, yes.

You also have the home team last on the scoreboard. The republican's colour is red, and the democrats's is blue. How come? winking smiley

And to those of us who live by it, it's the River Thames. If there's one in the States, you are welcome to call that the Thames River.

There was clear cut disagreement then, but no hostility, I think. I looked it up:
[iorr.org]

And what the Stones actually are doing, is more acccording to the reflection of another poster in that thread, who had voiced some scepticism at first to your proposal, but on reflection remembered his own attitude from earlier.

Quote
Doxa
Hmm.. I've been quite critical here about the idea of an album of covers but this is what I seemingly wrote just two years ago:

"The Stones is an incredible blues band. Maybe they should - even though I've been critical of the idea - a pure blues album just based on covers. I think that kind of thing would be much interesting than A BIGGER BANG type of album based on dried out ideas. Just gather (all) into studio together for few weeks and start jamming and listen your old blues records. Ask friends to guest and jam with them - Buddy Guy, Clapton, Macca, Taylor, Wyman... and call it ALL THEM BLUES or IT'S ALL BLUES or THE ROLLING STONES PLAYS THE BLUES WITH FRIENDS or something. And ask Jack Frost to produce it!"

grinning smiley

- Doxa

It means that there was an important difference. It consisted in the fact that you proposed an unspecified album of covers, but had their own R&B oriented first albums in mind (R&B and other genres done in a R&B approach), whereas Doxa had thought about a pure blues album.

To me the latter suggestion is an immensely more attractive prospect, because I doubt that other genres at this point in time would have been made in a R&B approach. With a blues content all over, I am so much more looking forward.
