All of this Clapton bashing, I suggest you give his new release, "Live In San Diego" a spin. Clapton, Derek Trucks, Doyle Bramhall, killin' it. Even JJ Cale sits in on a few tunes. Brilliant playing from all!

I look forward to Clapton's contributions to this upcoming Stones project.

Think the LP will be all 11 songs?

Maybe they did more later?

This is the kind of stuff that's cool to wonder about with new albums. If the internet was around the way it is now back in the mid-late 1960s and the early 1990s when music was exploding it would've been a blast.

And Clapton plays on it? confused smiley

And what's different from him playing on it than Keith? Millionaires are millionaires. Millionaire blues.

"Raw" and "crude" are not the two words that first come to my mind when someone mentions Clapton. Has nothing to do with money.

Just be glad Clapton is only on two songs. He goes way back with the Stones. maybe he is paying his respect, and is mixed down low. Cant wait for this album.

I wish Eric Clapton would just stay away

Well... if I may add my 2 cents. I say Eric Clapton is very welcome here. Though I'm most certainly a Taylorite (and proud of it). Especially after seeing him perform onstage with The Stones London 2012, I think this is a recipe for a musical explosion. At least I hope so. Let's go!

A guess (educated or otherwise) would be that releasing the blues album six months before an album of new material is a marketing decision. That way you can spin the new material as the product of the band returning to their roots and reconnecting to their past. That works better than releasing a pricey 2-disc set that won't sell huge numbers anyway or offering the blues disc as an iTunes exclusive and run the risk of people saying they prefer the old blues songs to an album of new material. This marketing plan lets both releases stand alone and support one another independently as part of the prepackaged story "we got back together for the 50th anniversary and after playing live for four years, went back to our roots did this record and then look at what amazing new material resulted once the band was on fire." [Never mind the fact that most of the songs will have been written and demoed with Matt Clifford six years before they were released and that the rest of the band just added overdubs. And in fairness, yes, Keith did some demos with Steve Jordan earlier this year as well.]

What amazes me is they cut this LP in 3 days and here it is how many months later?

If they had truly wanted to make an impact they should've released it the day after they finished it. No hype, just DOINK - Stones blues album.

Marketing indeed. Halloween crap in stores in AUGUST. Pumpkins on porches by early SEPTEMBER. Ocktoberfest beer out in early SEPTEMBER.

And an 11 track Stones blues LP just in time for...

You know, that's a really good point. Didn't even think of that. In keeping with the whole spontaneous vibe, they should have just dropped it w/o much hooplah.

Or maybe the Stones are paying respect to Clapton? Or maybe it's a mutual appreciation.
One only needs to listen to early Yardbirds (see live with Sonny Boy Williamson)... or the Bluesbreakers album w/Clapton...
or some of the Derek and the Dominoes blues tunes...or see his performance with Keith and Chuck Berry on In the Wee Wee Hours...it's easy to understand he has the right stuff.
I'm not sure what those criticizing him are basing their opinions on, but maybe they should delve deeper before simply writing him off.

CHUCK BERRY, ERIC CLAPTON, KEITH RICHARDS - Wee Wee Hours

I wish this new Stones record could sound as raw and dirty as this "new" recording from 2000:

Nick Curran - Women and Cadillacs

A travesty Mick Taylor wasn't involved with this. sad smiley

Mick Taylor hasn't been a Stone since 1974 and people still expect the band to include him in things. We should be grateful and amazed that they included him at all on those recent tours. You can't expect a band to keep inviting someone who quit four decades ago to continue participating.

I totally agree

If it is truly a raw blues album, I think it will be great.

But..... here are a few things that could mess it up:

1. Clapton playing more than Keith and Ronnie.

2. Don overproducing it.

3. If it is a "return to blues" in name only ala Rod's last 10 "I'm getting back to mandolins and acoustics" albums.

Also, I'd love a couple of (bluesy) originals with the standards.
4. chuck on lead plink.

I expect it to not sound all that different from these. Are these crude and authentic!?

There will likely be a production sheen that just comes with digital recording/modern recording etc etc.

So outside of that, I just hope the playing/vibe etc is killer and not boring and forced sounding.
