Your favorite Ronnie Wood solos
Posted by: TheBlockbuster ()

I know there was a thread on this a few years back but I thought it would be fun to once again hear what your favorite Ronnie Wood guitar solos are.

This solo on Big Bayou is fantastic, it's short but very intense and somewhat Clapton-esque.

I had forgotten about that song, it's definitely some of the very best solo work by any Stones member.

That is otherwise a very sloppy version of the tune but that solo makes up for it. Love it! Also love his solos on various live versions of Black Limousine, Just My Imagination, Beast of Burden and the version of Neighbours on the film, LSTNT. Hats off as well to his slide solo on Love In Vain from SGLIT and All Down The Line.

I sure would like to know why his playing with the Stones is so inferior to what he did with Faces/Rod Stewart. I really don't get it.

That wild horses solo is one of the most captivating I can recall hearing in a long time

I like most of his work with the Stones but he kind of changed his style and approach when he joined. His playing with the Faces had a totally different feel to it.

Not sure this will be a popular opinion, but I loved his solo in Worried About You in Zurich 2014 - was there and loved it in the moment, and continued loving it in the fantastic soundboard recording that has gone around after as well.

While that solo is great, I must say I prefer the solos he did on CYHMK in 2015. Seems like Ronnie is the only Stones member who is playing better now than in 2003. thumbs up

It took me a while to appreciate Ron Wood and what he does for the Stones. He basically plays all the lead parts of your favorite records so that they sound like your favorite records. Still, for the life of me, I couldn't tell you what differentiates Ron's guitar playing. I couldn't pick out that it was him playing on a recording. I always thought for the most part Rod & Ron's version of the faces were just a second tier Stones. For such a big personality, his playing is essentially faceless (no pun intended).

Although he is a better all around guitarist than Brian was, Brian is still more distinctive. And although I don't think he soars as high as Mick Taylor did, Ron's playing seems more immersed in the overall Stones sound as opposed to making its statement outside of it.

Indeed. Perhaps one could say that while Mick Taylor was a fantastic soloist, Ron Wood is more of an integrated team player.

Hand Of Fate - Paris 1976 TV broadcast version. Unfortunately it's not on Love You Live as it's one of those songs that really came to life on stage (at least back in 1976, whereas Licks tour versions usually sound thin and underrehearsed), while the studio version, still great though, sounds a bit stiff and dry in comparison.

Good one! The El Mocambo version has a good solo as well. Same with Dance Little Sister.
