I never get tired of hearing 100 years ago

I was listening to GHS today, and what struck me is the very interesting snare sound. A real open sound; not compressed, or cut at all. I hear it in the opening salvo especially.
The very same snare seems to come in again on 'Heartbreaker'.
It all sounds like a deep snare on a wood floor.

A rehearsal take from 1973. Interesting rhythm guitar which I've never heard before. Sort of changed the whole last part.

There's an American jam/experimental band called GHOSTLIGHT who do a righteous version if "100 Years Ago." They also do "Sway."

I know folks will disagree but the song could have done without the solos after the 2:40 mark. The song is too lovely without any extensions.

It sounds to me it’s Mick 2020 singing? Anyone else thinking this? But I like it very much. Very jazzy singing

Don't believe it's 2020 Mick.. Love this version.

Absolutely love that the discussion even comes up though.
Other than All The Rage, every other polished up gem has had this question debated.
Amazing cool smiley

Okay I’m not sure of course, but Mick said in an interview for Scarlet or All The Rage that he has not the same sound now as in 1972 or 1973, but he tries to get “the Mood” of then. So he’s kind of trying to sound like in 1972 or 1973. He might be doing it in this one? I’ve never heard a piano version with or without singing of 100 Years Ago on a bootleg. Not that I have all the bootlegs....spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Great track...

Ordered my Super Deluxe on Thursday night, with free shipping but a 2-wk wait for arrival thru Amazon US. On my doorstep yesterday morning at 8am... what a great surprise!

The Stones could do a 2 or 3 song acoustic set with an extra song or two with Plinky and Mick in this vocal/piano format for a great interlude when they return to the stage... Note, I said when!

Nah it's definitely Mick from the '72 era. Why would he add new vocals to a demo? Anyway this an absolute gem from the reissue. My favorite bonus track. He sings this demo with even more heart than the finished version.

Is this an outtake or maybe early version? I like it.

To add a modern day vocal and pass it off as a 'demo' would make it the most ludicrous and pointless addition to any of these deluxe reissues.

Sounds like a 1972 vocal to my ears ok. It's fabulous.

I hope it’s not Mick 2020 with piano by Matt Clifford or Chuck 2020

Definitely Mick on piano. Sounds quite a bit like Memory Motel and Fool to Cry (same key).

I'm gonna go with the credits on this one - Nicky and Mick, 1972.

I had the same thought that it might be 2020 Mick. Maybe a 1972 piano track, but possibly new vocals. There are a few things that kind of sound like new Mick. But, as MisterDDDD said, it is pretty cool that there is discussion on Mick's voice. It shows he can put on his classic voice if he wants and that we actually have to listen close to some of these songs to try to pick it out.

I agree that Mick is quite capable of sounding like himself from almost 50 years ago but, it's a demo, a demonstration before the rest of the group records it. Clearly Mick would not do a 2020 vocal to a demo of a song that was finished and put on an album...

Not sure if those credits can be trusted as there's lots of mis-info. sprinkled throughout.

It's my favorite of the collection!! They should do this is in concert. No offense but who would play piano on that level?? It would be hard to match the studio version.

Interesting discussion, I think it may be 2020 vocals on the '72 demo.

It's a shame they obviously did not record any of the two or three liver versions from the 1973 Tour of Europe professionally because that would have been a substantial addition.

Neverthjeless, this demo is great, regardless of when the vocals were recorded. If Mick could sing now on a Studio recording like he did in the 1970s it wopuld be unbelievable!
