I saw him perform live twice, an outstanding and soulful harmonica player. Also a very accomplished guitarist. RIP Toots.

Great artist.

Saw him play in Paul Simon's band during the "Still Crazy After All These Years" tour in 1975.

As I recall he got quite an ovation after a harmonica solo.

Toots did the Heat of The Night soundtrack with Ray Charles and Quincy Jones; great playing on it.

It was John Lennon seeing Toots Thielemans playing a Rickenbacker 325 that prompted Lennon to buy a Rickenbacker 325.

Toots was a genius! His playing was unique. I saw him in Ystad 2011 jazz festival, great gig. He also wrote a lot of film-music, my favorite score was in the film "Prime cut". God bless

Yes he was. For us harmonica players he's at least as important as Miles Davis for trumpet players or Charlie Parker for Saxophone player or...The Rolling Stones for anyone playing Rock'n Roll. A true milestone and in my opinion easily one of the best musicians to ever walk on this planet.

As a slight OT, at the Exhibitionism is diplayed a chromatic harmonica of Brian Jones'. That's interesting because I can't recall any Stones' song featuring a chromatic harmonica. My guess is that maybe the chromatic harmonica turned out too difficult to play, as well as not agressive enough for the blues, and therefore Brian Jones decided to stick with the diatonic harmonica.

Maybe any of you can point out a Stones' song featuring that particular harmonica? To my mind it doesn't occur any.

...Well spotted!!
I noticed that too; but didn't think any of it.

He elevated the possibilities of what one can do with a harmonica. Salud!
