The musical interlude after "It'll buy some time", at 1:02, with the organ, is sublime. It just carries me away to a pleasant, peaceful place. It did when I first heard it in '69 and it still does today. It is hypnotizing.

That's nice. I like that.

thumbs up very good song, nicely structured with great pauses and fantastic flow. Slow but never stale. A wave.

Fantastic, also for the best ever acoustic guitar sound on a record.

To me the very best Stones song that has got Keith alone on vocals

One of the things that Keith did so well in making records was creating and then releasing tension, and this song is a great example. It takes its time, it meanders, it reaches a climax and then there is a big rush at the end.

A truly beautiful thing, was Keith at the peak of his powers in '69?

Although it is the weakest song on LIB it is still great. That tells a lot about the quality of LIB. The original is one of Keith´s shining hours but you better forget all the live versions, they are no good.

The outtake that has Mick on lead vocals isnt bad either.

One of their most beautiful songs ever. Keith at his best, certainly the vocals.

another rolling stones song that has the ability to sound so different to other rolling stones songs, they have many like this, not sure theres ever been a band that can have so much versatility in its repertoire. heard it live in 2007 at o2 london.

A sublime, astonishing track that envelopes the listener in its warm, redemptive embrace. This is Keith at the very height of his powers. The sound of this one, ohhhhh baby ... so sad and yet soooo sweet. The guitar licks, from those first twangy notes, cast a mesmerizing spell. And those lyrics, man, so brilliantly capturing the magic and the mystery and the pain of love ... this is poetry of the very highest order. And perhaps most remarkable of all, the sound of Keith’s voice, so utterly distinctive and charmingly ragged.

You Got the Silver is a transcendental work of art ... a masterpiece that shines like the diamonds from the mine.

Yes. Just completely excellent. Can't begin to describe. It's really always moving perfectly into another level of lovely rolling, beautifully written soulful stuff. Love it madly. That groove is deep.
Haha I love the poster who said something like Keith should have done all the singing on Bleed. haha...love to hear some of that.

I have the SHINE A LIGHT version on my smartphone and will cavil and confess that I prefer Keith's voice starting in the 80s, finding his quondam voice too nasal and thin. Credit the chain smoking.

I too am surprised that so many people consider this the height of Keith's achievements as a vocalist.
For me a bashfully love-smitten guitarist sings YGtS. It was later that he began to evolve into a vocalist
using his beautifully textured voice for gloriously deepdark things [swoon!]

According to Nzengraf.de the version with Micks lead vocal was recorded a day before
the version with Keith' vocals (16th and 17th feb). I don't know if that is accurate,
but could it be that it was their intention to have Mick singing it, but then
(luckily) decided that it would be better if Keith had a go at it? With remarkable results.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

And has the Gimme Shelter version with Keith on vocals the same reason? Would you know
when that one was recorded? Before or after Micks?

I think Keith just cut a demo while waiting for Mick. At least, that's what he says. I'm not sure.

And Charlie's brushes give it a subtle/delicate jazzy extra.

No matter how great the original Keith version is which is indelibly imprinted in my heart, mind, and soul, I have to say the Mick version is also A+.

For me it sounds plausible........only I'm not sure they used the demo version

I think most 'Keith' songs never began as such. They just both worked on a song, working out melodies and lyrics, and when the track is finished or near to finished they decide whose voice works best with the track. YGTS is a good example, as is All About You. There's an outtake where you can hear Jagger and Richards working out a lyric and vocal melody on a track that's near to finished.

One of the last listed studio contributions by Brian also...

Anyone hear the Autoharp? And any pictures of Brian playing one?

The story I read was that Keith didn't really like Mick's vocal, or thought he could do better, and came in the next day and did it himself. And then insisted his version be used.
