You Got The Silver

Hey baby, what's in your eyes?
I saw them flashing like airplane lights
You fill my cup, baby, that's for sure
I must come back for a little more

You got my heart, you got my soul
You got the silver, you got the gold
You got the diamonds from the mine
Well that's all right, it'll buy some time

Tell me, honey, what will I do
When I'm hungry and thirsty too?
I'm feeling foolish and that's for sure
Just waiting here at your kitchen door

Hey baby, what's in your eyes?
Is that the diamonds from the mine?
What's that laughing in your smile?
I don't care, no, I don't care

Oh baby, you got my soul
You got the silver, you got the gold
You've got your love, just leave me blind
I don't care, no, that's no big surprise

Perfection – from the lovely vocals to the absolutely stellar guitar playing!

Outstanding track thumbs up

Keith, of course, recorded many emotional and heartfelt songs. But this beauty seems
to be the only one where he sort of "screams out" whatever he's feeling.

And I don't think there's that many songs that have Keith playing slide. This one and
Ventilator Blues. Can't think of any other at the moment.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

Monkey Man, Love In Vain, Midnight Rambler, Salt Of The Earth, Jig Saw Puzzle, Might As Well Get Juiced, Happy - to name a few smiling smiley

A wonderful and totally unique song from the Stones' greatest album and the one which Keith masterminded.

In fact I'd go as far as saying that You Got The Silver is probably Keith's greatest solo song.

It's pretty rare to come across a Stones song that doesn't owe a debt to a specific genre whether it be rock'n'roll, blues, r'n'b, reggae, country etc

But You Got The Silver is a genre all of its own - a touch of country, a touch of folk, and a touch of soul but it's got Keith's DNA stamped all over it and that is why it has become so well loved down the ages.

His guitar playing - as it is all over Let It Bleed - is masterful and that amazing backwards effect and slide just takes the song into the stratosphere.

You Got The Silver is a song that songwriters dream of creating. And remember, it's sandwiched between Midnight Rambler and Monkey Man with You Can't Always Get What You Want following straight after. Was there ever a better single side of a vinyl album than this? I don't think so.

Actually Marco my sweet, on Let It Bleed Keith plays slide on way more tracks than he doesn't.

But I digress. A musicology student once sneered at Keith's vocal on this, saying it was uncouth.
I told her it was very plain that no bashful young guitarist had ever been smitten with her
(and never would be at the rate she was going). What a bashful uncouth radiant beauty

One of my favourite Bleed tracks.
You Got The Silver was chosen by Michelangelo Antonio for inclusion on the sound-track of his film Zabriskie Point.

Alright, Dandee and Sssoul Sister, I need to do my homework on Keith' beautiful slide
playing. It's nice be taught by people with more knowledge than I can ever dream of
obtaining.

And talking about being taught: I do hope the musicology student in question ever had the pleasure
of being smitten with a guitar player. I am sure she would appreciate the beauty of uncouthness
after that!

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

I am at a loss as to how to describe how much I love this achingly beautiful love song that's full of longing, vulnerability, and desire. From the gorgeous guitar work to Keith's raw, heart-felt vocals, it's a window into Keith's soul that's pure emotion. It slays me every time I hear it.

Powerful, emotional, beautifully done. Probably of the many reasons so many of us love Keith Richards.

This without a doubt represents his best vocal performance. Let It Bleed would be every bit as good had Keith sung lead on all the tracks. And after that he should never have sung again. Even 'Happy' doesn't hit the heights until Mick takes over the lead.

Pure vintage Keith - somewhat of a 'blueprint' for most all of his later Stones solo tunes and solo work in general.

Indeed. A great track, and as a clueless 10 year-old when it came out I wondered why Mick Jagger sounded so different, lol...Than I read the liner notes....

"Gonna find my way to heaven ..."

Ho Ho, 'You Got the Silver'

Yeah, I'm at a loss for words too, bow to the previous reviews that say it for me.

I have listened to the orginal track so many times, I can hear it perfectly inside myself with silence outside.

Love the track and the way it helps offset the entire album...

Never heard this Mick vocal version before. Looked it up cuz read that Brian's playing was more pronounced in the mix. I found this version to be further proof how great the song is, even tho prefer the official released cut I still love it with someone else's vocal.

Mick vocal

The musical interlude after "It'll buy some time", at 1:02, with the organ, is sublime. It just carries me away to a pleasant, peaceful place. It did when I first heard it in '69 and it still does today. It is hypnotizing.

The over-spill from Keith listening to pre-war country blues ....

So glad I got to hear it on the No Security Tour in '99. Keith was still playing guitar on it live and it was a surprise and quite lovely. I hope that if a No Security DVD makes release, it will have 'You Got The Silver'.

One of my favorites and one of Keith's best ever.

He plays guitar on it now as well. He didn't, in 2006/7,though.

On the Babylon tour he played slide, though. That was special.
